Worried about dd, what could this be?

Twice in the last 4 weeks, dd has had the following happen, almost identical both times. Got up fine in morning, around mid morning starts to feel unwell, vision blurs, headache (medium), sudden vomiting for about 10 mins, ends up in bed sleeping on and off for 24 hours. No further sickness but headache when moves head. Gets worse when moving around.

Any ideas??

Sounds like a migraine.

CorporateRockWhore · 21/08/2014 16:40

I've never had one but maybe migraine?

TheJourney22 · 21/08/2014 16:42

Migraine

insanityscratching · 21/08/2014 16:47

Migraine pretty much just like dd (11) who sleeps twelve hours in an almost unconscious state afterwards. She's also a bit fuzzy the following day like a hangover effect.

trickynicky · 21/08/2014 16:48

Eye sight is all fine. No other headaches in between times. She tells me she has a blindspot just before the headache sets in and then her vision is fine again.

Sounds almost identical to the migraines I had as a young teenager, I used to get a zig zag blockage of vision for a while before the awful headache hit. Eventually I would vomit and the headache would immediately disappear. I used to be very tired afterwards.

TheJourney22 · 21/08/2014 20:27

Exactly the same! I would vomit & then be fine, but would sleep for over 14hrs solid after, started when I was 9 until 19! Prob had 3 since, I'm now 37. Problem with treating Migraine is catching them early, once the headache sets in, it's pointless ingesting medication as your stomach also stops working.

I would go to docs with her, my teenage years were a misery because of them :( ....

Hope she's ok, full sympathy xx

Another vet for migraine, also could be linked to hormones. Had a friend at college who used to get one every month without fail and hers started aged 12.

LEMmingaround · 21/08/2014 20:30

sounds like migraine, seems to be common in that age group :( I had some humdingers. Thankfully i grew out of them.

She needs checked of course so they can prescribe appropriate medication and advice.

TheJourney22 · 21/08/2014 20:32

I was prescribed Paramax, it is good as it helps the absorption of the tablets in the stomach (which a migraine prevents)

Depending how often she gets them Doc may suggest preventative treatment.

Horrific bastard things, can be totally connected to hormones. ConfusedConfused

GummiberryJuice · 21/08/2014 20:33

Migraines, I've had them from a very young age and when I was young they were triggered by skipping a meal or eating breakfast/lunch/dinner later than usual.

sunnyrosegarden · 21/08/2014 20:36

I had them as a teenager, then they stopped. I had one in each pregnancy, so guess they were hormone related.

Tipsykisses · 21/08/2014 20:44

Agree with pp , sounds just like migraine with aura .
All my family suffer & they are the one thing that knocks me out completely .
Take her to gp as they are very frequent for a child , I found mine got more frequent leading up to my first period .
Hope she feels better soon , it's not nice bless her x

RandomMess · 21/08/2014 20:47

Yes that's how mine started as a young teenager.
