a few months ago i had a supected vaginal prolapse. it took alot of persuading from you lot to go and get it checked out. it resulted in the nurse saying that she couldnt feel/see anything and that she said everything was fine.
it has been bothering me again and im not sure but it might be getting bigger. i have booked an appointment for wed morning and am SHITTING IT !!!!!!

i know that there is something there that shouldnt be and i just want to go and get it sorted once and for all . i asked the nurse today if they could just reffer me to the gyne clinic but she said that i have to see a gp first to have an v/e . i am so not looking forward to it.
to make matters worse i have totally stripped my lady garden and am all rashy and spotty , if the exam wasnt bad enough !!!

so once again can i please have your support and reasuurance that all ill be ok / they have seen it all before etc etc etc
thanks

I had a prolapse from week 12 to about 28 of my last pregnancy. Then it disappeared of own accord. Are you sure it's a prolapse?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 18/09/2006 23:06

Muma3 - please don't worry about the lady garden. They'll have seen it all before (plus the compost heap behind).

I hope it's nothing serious and that you'll get treatment soon.

muma3 · 18/09/2006 23:10

no i dont think it is a prolapse but i have a lump inside that i know is there and im not imagining it but the last nurse i saw couldnt acknowledge it iyswim and i think it is the cause of pain during intercourse too.

i hope someone will sort it out too as i just want ease of mind now and would much prefer to go to the hospital i think where they specialise in fannys

Maybe it's a cyst?

mummyplonk · 18/09/2006 23:12

You are doing the right thing, getting yourself checked. My goodness they have seen more lady gardens than hot dinners, this is a job to them. Try not to get too upset/worked up. Well done for going (dont chicken out now!) I had to nag my Mum for 6 months before she went. There are things they can do.

serenity · 18/09/2006 23:19

Where's the lump? Does it come and go? Could it be a rectal rather than vaginal prolapse, so what you're feeling is faecal matter pushing the rectal wall into the vagina? Sorry if TMI

I had a rectal and bladder prolapse corrected last year.

livelife · 19/09/2006 16:06

ok i'll be brave too - can feel my bladder at vagina opening when i'm on the loo. is this a prolapse? ps i don't leak unless sneeze or laugh with full bladder!

serenity · 19/09/2006 16:24

I didn't have stress incontinence with mine either so it could be. If it's uncomfortable or annoying get your GP to check it out.

expatinscotland · 19/09/2006 16:27

livelife
you may have a vaginal fistula, a hole in between the vagina and urethra. this can happen during vaginal childbirth.

livelife · 19/09/2006 16:49

ooh-er that doesn't sound nice. surely that would make me drip wee everywhere??!! I def don't. am sure the whole thing is just drooping down just not sure if i should take it to doc or ignore unless becomes a prob? can feel it all bumpy when wiping!!

serenity · 19/09/2006 17:12

Better to get it checked out now, rather than when it's more than an annoyance. It can take a while to work your way up the waiting lists to see a gyne consultant, never mind actually get anything done!

agalch · 19/09/2006 17:27

Serenity i think i may have the same prob as you.I know i had a not too bad bladder prolapse(cystocele?) after the birth of dd1 and dd2 now 7 weeks.Told doc at 6 week check up things felt worse but found it hard to explain how exactly.Just feels really swollen down there and just not right.
No stress incontinence or anything. How did you know you had both probs? Sorry if i'm being too nosy and tell me to bog off if you want to.

serenity · 19/09/2006 20:43

Ok, I didn't know I had a bladder prolapse until after I was seen by a consultant because of the rectal prolapse, even though it was apparently worse. I knew something wasn't right because I kept getting this irritating feeling, like having a tampon in too low. Everytime I needed to do a poo (sorry!) the bulge in the rectal wall (the prolapse) would allow it to push into the vagina. This meant I stopped getting the feeling I needed to go (no pressure on the exit) I'd get into cycles of constipation and the runs and in the end I'd have to push it back in order to go. Not fun, not pleasant and not what I wanted to do for the next 50+ years!

Mine were caused by heavy babies, and very fast 2nd Stages of labour, I was warned that I was beginning to prolapse after I had DS1 in 1998, but there's no point having surgery (my only option) until you finish having children. There's a good chance that another birth would wreck the surgery, and each subsequent surgery has smaller odds of working. I had my op last year.

HTH,

Re your lady garden worry's and them all 'seing it before' I have to tell you this story. I was originally told it by my friend who said it happened to a friend of hers but I think it may have been doing the rounds. You'll probably all yawn and moan 'yeah, heard it before', but just incase you ahven't here goes...

My friend told me that her friend was rather uncomfortable than most about going for smear tests. She was uber-paranoid about there being any form of a 'smell', so before her appointment. Sprayed herself with something fruity smelling from the bathroom. Lying there on the table, later that day, she was most alarmed and angered when the man examining her started making sarcastic comments such as 'well, thanks for the effort but you didn't have to go to the trouble' and looking at her with a noticable degree of contempt. After the exam, the friend rushed home. almost in tears, with the words of a strongly worded complaint letter forming in her head. She went to bathroom and, oh dear, realised that she had sprayed herself with her daughter glitterspray!

Hope it goes well Muma3, at least you getting something done about it and you dont have long to wait until you get some answers.

mckenzie · 19/09/2006 21:11

serenity - I've just been diagnosed with a 'Posterior vaginal wall defect' (it feels like i've left a tampon in for much too long and when i strain or jump up and down I can feel it about to pop out).
It that similar to yours? I've been offered surgery and I'm not trying to decide what to do.

agalch · 19/09/2006 21:19

Thanks Serenity

I feel bad for asking you,i'm sorry.Thats how i feel so i guess i need to visit my gp again to see what she thinks.
How long did it take to get your op? Does it have to have a certain degree of severity before you can have an op?

Thanks again x

serenity · 19/09/2006 22:08

If it helps this thread was running just before and just after I had my surgery. I did a kind of running commentary, I was really scared so it helped to get it out (I love this place)

agalch - don't be silly just hope it was helpful rather than too gross

mckenzie - sounds similar, maybe the surgery's similar too?

mckenzie · 19/09/2006 22:25

thanks Serenity. I've read the other post and it does help as such although it also makes me think that maybe surgery isn't for me at the moment. However, the thought that it might get worse with the menopause then makes me think I should have the surgery now and just be done with it.
The consultant that I saw said that some people complain of tightness during sex afterwards - can I be very personal and ask if you have found that? Or any other after effects?

serenity · 19/09/2006 22:44

No tightness that DH complained about

seriously though, yes they do warn you that that could possibly happen , along with the risks of having a GA anyway, the fact that any surgery near your bladder can cause damage, there could be excessive bleeding etc. There are always risks with any surgery unfortunately.

The only 'complications' I had were a few postop infections, but nothing serious. Antibiotics sorted it out pretty quickly. My only problem is that I didn't know that the lifting restriction they put on you is permanent, so I went back to lifting heavy rugs and boxes when I went back to work and I've begun to prolapse again. Luckily it's not noticable to me, only when I'm examined so no more lifting, and back to doing 200 PFEs a day.

mckenzie · 20/09/2006 15:00

thanks serenity. sorry to hear about you prolasping again though. Hope all the pfe help.
