MMR - calling all parents who opted for the single jabs

Please could you let me know roughly the procedure & costs involved. I realise that this most probably differs fromcli nic to clinic and depending on which part of the country you're in, but just a basic account of your personal experience would be great.

My dd is 10 months and I've started looking into this ahead or time as I want to try to make an informed decision, but am finding it really hard to find any information on the single vaccines.

One site of a private surgery I came across online, said that you need to have an initial 'consultation' where they discuss with you whether to go for the triple jab or the singles. Then they have to order them specifically for your child as they aren't licensed in this country and to have the single vaccinations would be over ?200. Is this typical?

I feel like I am being forced into making a decision between giving my child a triple jab which I personally feel is rather too much of a strain for a baby's immature immune system, or not having it and risking measles which can potentially cause dangerous complications.

uwila & donnie if you keep getting reminders for the mmr and you have gone privatly then you will keep getting these until your gp has confirmation from the private place. This can be given by yourself by providing them with dates, names and batch numbers of the vaccinations. This is what I have done with dd following 4 reminders. She has mumps left to go and apparently once she has had all 3 the relvant info gets sent off but I have done it already to save me getting anymore letters.!

The vaccination thats just come out and to be had before they are 2 is for meningitus. They are vaccinating all newborns with the 1st set of jabs and all other under 2's are in a catch up programme so your dd/ds should have it before2. If not then chase your gp. Our dd is due hers in 2 weeks time. BTW there is also another new vaccination due out for peumonia (sp?) and septicemia..this is being done like the menigitus one in the next few months... Phewww..!

yes, I am hoping I remember to take dd's red book with us when she has the vax so they can stamp it at the hospital - then I will show it to my doubting GP!
Uwila I doubt if they have forgotten you though - did you get an original letter requesting an mmr appt? if not you might remind them.
The other vax is the prevenar meningitis jab which I don't know much about. Expatinscotland and amyjade are clued up about this and there are threads on it, but I haven't had my dd2 called up for that yet. Still debating if I would go for it or not....

donnie we have a seperate card from the private clinic for dd's seperate mmr. It may we worth getting something like that than can be posted seperatly or even call your gp with the info thats all I did.

Anout the meninigitus vaccination, meningitus is a bit of a problem in our area atm. Statistics say figures are no higher than other arears or other years but tbh we would rather not risk anything. Its such a shame the amount of babies (under 2's) who are dying or becoming very ill from this that dh & I are adamant dd will be vaccinated.
All personal choice of course but we feel it's in dd's interest to have it.

Uwila, you ds was born around the time as dd, I would chase your gp as you may have been forgotten. But then again I think you are going private so may just be worth getting him booked in now. DD 1st mmr vaccination was done at around 14 ish months. She has been fine following the 2 so far.BTW how are you doing.?
