How many times a day do you pee?

I have always had what my mother describes as a 'cheap japanese bladder'. I apologise to all Japanese. I have no idea what she even means.

However, while I have always needed to pee a lot, I have noticed over the last few days that I really do go an awful lot. I've noticed this because I have been working at home and seem to be wearing out the carpet between my office and the loo.

So today I thought I would keep a record of how many times I go. Since getting up at just after 7am when the first pee occurred, I have pee'd 15 times. I can assure you that there will be at least two more before I go to sleep - one when I go to clean my teeth shortly and another just before I turn out the lights. that will bring the total to 17 times in a day.

I have looked up symptoms for diabetes and urinary tract infections and overactive bladder. I don't seem to fit the bill for any of them. I do drink a lot of water - about 7 pints a day, plus about 3 cups of coffee and tonight, several glasses of wine, but I think my liquid intake and pee outgoings are fairly consistent.

I do feel thirsty regularly, hence the drinking of a lot of water. But what else could this be? Is it normal to pee this many times a day??

Note - I don't need to get up at night to pee unless I am woken by something else, and then I just go 'in case'. I don't have accidents, I can bounce on a trampoline with reasonable confidence, and have no other symptoms. Help

I have a bladder like a horse! I drink tea all day, a pot at a time and pee maybe 4 times during 24hours.

I broke my ankle a few years back and held off peeing for hours in A&E because my leg was so sore when I moved it.

When I finally couldn't stand it any more, I needed 2 of the paper hat things because the first one was full and I hadn't finished!!

When I get up
Before I leave the house
Once during the morning
Once during the afternoon
A couple of times in the evening
Before bed

About 7 or 8 times, but some of it's habit rather than necessity - "I'd better go while I've got the opportunity," just before I go out. And I can go a lot longer at work without one, but I think the morning and afternoon ones have quite a bit to do with breaking up the day and just being away from my desk.

I will go before swimming or an exercise class, too.

Rarely need to do during the night, unless I drank a lot in the last hour before bed, which I generally avoid doing.

About 3 times per 24 hours. I can hold it for hours, my mother says I must have been a camel in a previous life.

About 6 times for me in 24 hours. I find that diet coke and coffee make my bladder more sensitive and mean an extra pee is needed.

Loads. Probably 20 times a day most days. I've had the fasting blood tests and nothing was every found. I wee every hour at work, if not more.

I go about same amount and always have the diabetes test. It's going at night which is a real pain. I believe it could well be a case of trying to retrain the bladder. The more we go the less the bladder holds. I can't resist going to the toilet whenever there is a opportunity, that is when I am out. Going anywhere requires thought about toilets. I dread having to go into hospital as asking for for toilet help so many times fills me with trepidation.

About 4 or 5 times a day. When I wake, once or twice at work, when I get in from work, before bed. I don't go overnight usually.

Ilovefluffysheep · 17/08/2014 20:31

Anything over 8 times a day is considered "unusual". I have overactive bladder and have had every treatment going, none of which have worked. I had major surgery in April and that didn't work either, and am now in a worse position than before. I haven't been at work since April.

People don't realise how debilitating bladder conditions can be, but they can totally dictate your life. I don't see my consultant until October, and really don't know what else they can suggest other than bladder removal. All I know is I can't stay as I am.

HappydaysArehere · 18/08/2014 08:46

Also suspect that I don't empty my bladder properly. Can often return within a few minutes to finish going.

Sallystyle · 18/08/2014 22:35

Around 6-8 times during the day.

Sometimes I wake up once or twice at night too.

That is a lot to drink in a day - I drink lots (but less than that!) and wee a lot to match - prob as much as yourself :) Have you tried drinking a lot less and comparing the amount you're weeing? I'm diabetic so tend to drink/wee more than most people, but even so, if I forget to drink as much I go far fewer times too.

If you were diabetic (untreated) and tried this yourself you would prob keep weeing a lot and feel extremely thirsty. If not diabetic then I'd expect you to just not need to go. That said, if you're used to drinking a lot you'll prob feel thirsty anyway so it's hardly a useful test...haha.. I would def get a diabetes test just to be on the safe side!

Lemele · 19/08/2014 17:32

Oh and I meant to say I get far too used to going for a wee when I take the kids to the loo - I 'feel the need' to go whenever I'm in the bathroom. If I'm in a hurry or just try to ignore it I then go back downstairs and easily last another few hours... so I think it's good to train the bladder by not going too often if you can.

There are so many possibles lol Hmm
