Hi, can anyone help me, my 3yo has been ill with what we thought was a cold/virus, he com, plained of earache today and we gave him clapol and tixylix - he went to bed about 6.30 (spent the whole day resting indoors (he has been screaming in pain for the last half hour, there is blood all over his sheet (about 6 spots of it, like 10p size) and blood encrusting the inside of his ear, he also says the pain is worse in his OTHER ear. I am frantic, if anyone has any experiences or idea PLEASE help. We have called NHS Direct and are waiting for a doctor to call us back

just caught up - so glad he's ok, if still a little off colour. I've had a burst eardrum - not nice!

hope he soon recovers

RTKangaMummy · 18/09/2006 13:19

I am glad he got treated quickley

I hope he gets better soon

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 13:28

Thanks for replies - it was great to have MN to turn to last night. DS1 is still very miserable and in pain, he didn't eat much lunch and said to me "Mummy, I think my ears are going to hurt for ever" . DH is just going out to stock up on calpol and brufen so we can alternate them. I do hope he feels better soon, it's horrible seeing him like this, he is usually such a little firecracker. Still, at least it isn't anything really serious!

LOL yes I know (well who doesn't frankly?)

it is just when it is not your own child it is sometimes harder to imagine what the worst could really be

brain haemorrhage was extremely creative and mad, well done

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 14:34

Yes, I really excelled myself with that one

How frightening for you and ds, hope he gets better asap.

Did you really think it might have been a brain haemorrhage?? It says a lot about your faith in MN that you posted here rather than call an ambulance!

FoghornLeghorn · 18/09/2006 15:04

Glad the panic is over now Greeny. DD burst both of her ear drums when she was about 18 months old, it was only when I was getting her undressed for bed one night and pulled her Tshirt off she screamed and screamed, she hadn't been herself all day, she was really dozy too so I was sure she had menigitis. I spend about half an hour on the phone to a great doctor from NHS Direct and she said it was definitely her ear drums - took her to GP's next day and she had burst them both, poor little mite.
Not nice for your DS at all

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 15:07

LOL Mercy DH was on the phone to NHS Direct while I was posting on here, they call an ambulance for you if they think it's urgent (they did when my stepdad had a heart attack). It was very scary though, but a great relief that he is all right.

Glad all is okay. Can i just ask, why no car seat?

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 18:57

How is he now?

Am confused by the car seat question as can't see anything about car seats on here! But Greeny doesn't drive so that would be the answer, I think.

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 19:04

Thanks for asking, Franny - he's just on his way to bed now, he is still pretty miserable, but has managed a bit of ice cream tonight and seems calmer now the pain killers are starting to work.

VVV - because when the "rift" with my mother/stepfather happened, we had car seats which fitted the boys and were perfectly good, but he is now too big for the one we had for him, which we didn't think to replace because we don't have a car and use trains/buses everywhere we go. We'd be unlikely to take the two of them out in a taxi even if we did have appropriate seats, because we'd have to carry both seats around with us.

Well you would be confused Franny, the question wasnt directed at you.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/09/2006 19:08

Ah ha!

I was too busy worrying for you last night to pick up on it, lol! It just puzzled me this morning.....why have for one and not the other......?

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 19:16

Well, we did have two - but we gave away the little one on freecycle because it was too small for either of them, and kept the larger one because it would fit ds2 for quite a while longer, if we do ever get a car.

SSSandy · 18/09/2006 19:17

I would go to the hospital straight away

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 19:18

Sorry Ssandy - it was yesterday... we are still gosipping under the same thread title

OP posts:
SSSandy · 18/09/2006 19:30

oh sorry that'll teach me not to be so lazy and actually read the WHOLE thread.

Burst eardrum from a viral infection? I didn't even know that happened. How awful. How is he today?

Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 19:31

He's still sleepy and weepy but a bit better, thanks Ssandy
