Insect bite refuses to go away

More than two weeks ago I got bitten on the arm by what I assumed was a mossie. The bite is still there, still itchy and has swollen up again. I've been taking antihistamines and putting cream on it but it just refuses to mend itself.

What bit me if it wasn't a mossie? Will it ever heal? Am I broken?

I had a bite that turned into a really nasty abscess so I would get it checked by the GP to see if you need antibiotics.

Yikes, really? OK, I'll give it another couple of days then visit the doctor if it's not showing any sign of improvement.

I've got one that's freaking me out too. It's been there about a month and won't go. I'm worried in case it's not a bite! I'm glad I now have a weird bite friend Smile

If they feel tender and hot definitely get them checked out. Please Smile

It's not tender or hot. It was mainly that the bastard thing just won't go away and is still itchy and bumpy.

I'd see a chemist first. I'm very prone to long-lived bites, argh.

ThreeFroglets · 10/08/2014 22:46

Could be a horse fly bite...they seem to take ages to heal. Have you tried hydrocortisone cream on it? That works for me!

DD seems to react badly. She also developed an abscess. She has one now that I'm keeping a close eye on. It has a head, an angry red patch and fainter red area around that. I drew a line around it two nights ago to make sure I knew if it was getting bigger. If it doesn't settle tomorrow it's off to the GP

I saw a thing on fb about boiling a kettle, pouring it over a teaspoon, once a little cooler pressing underside of teaspoon on bite- kills the proteins that cause the itching. No idea if it works but posted from a cousin who lives in the CaribbeanSmile

I'd get I checked out because of the small chance of an insect carrying Lyme disease. It's probably not but if caught early it's so easily treated.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/08/2014 07:32

I would get the GP to look at it as it may now need a course of antibiotics.

FrontForward - do go to the GP asap as that reads like a tick bite, does it look like a bullseye?.

I hadn't considered tick bite Attila until this thread! I don't know what bit her but it is on her shoulder and was a passing bite, either crawling or flying. She had bare arms on that day. I think GP today is probably on the list
