Terrible dental pain after a filling 2 weeks ago.

Went back to dentist on Monday and am on antibiotics but has made no difference.

Have been popping paracetamol every 4 hours for 10 days, what is this going to do to me?

Will be calling the dentist again in the morning but what the heck is going with my tooth? Sad

It could be filling is too high.

Maybe try difflam oral mouth wash it numbs nouth a bit.

I wouldn't worry about para as long as you only taling dose.

As long as you are sticking to the correct dosage, it's fine. My h has been taking paracetamol (+ other painkillers) continuously for 7 years for back problems with no issue.

When you say every 4 hours is that waking hours? So definitely no more than 8 tablets per 24 hour period? If so then that won't do you any harm.

Filling doesn't feel high but I'm no expert.

Thanks for the mouthwash tip ill get some of that today.

Thank you for your responses. I've been taking around 8 tablets in 24 hours but got woken up in the night by DS so had to take another 2 to get back to sleep. Which is when I posted my OP!

Going to be calling the dentist again on Monday. So frustrating as the tooth felt fine before!

Try over the counter paracetamol with codeine if you are still in pain. You can add in ibuprofen, too quite safely, then you have some king of pain relief every 2-3 hours through the day.

To be honest, you might be better with a stronger painkiller and less of it. Speak to the pharmacist about what they'd recommend in the circumstances.

When I had dental pain I was advised to take ibruprofen and if necessary alternate with paracetamol. I.e take a full dose of each a day. Ibruprofen antinflamatory properties being better for dental pain than paracetamol.

You should be ok as long as you don't exceed the recommended dose without a clinician advising otherwise.

Thanks for the advice. I've switched to ibuprofen and I also managed to see the dentist today who has filed down the filling a bit to see if that sorts it. Fingers crossed!

Will be alternating with paracetamol during the night if I need it.

What was the cause of your dental pain polly?
