Hi, just wondering if anyone has or knows anyone who has suffered with this? It's quite uncommon and can affect different parts of the body
DF had it 6-7 years ago and was mostly affected in his legs, although his arms were also affected
Now, all these years later his legs have become weaker and sometimes just give way! He doesn't take any medication, he's not in pain, just feels weak,
Just wondered if anyone has suffered this as he's never come across anyone else who has it,
TIA

Have found a forum about it but it's American

A close friend had it, several years ago. He was a shipped into some major (old) central London hospital with a specialism in nerve diseases, I did visit a few times but forget which. Most of the literature and research is American, it seems to be much more common there (or maybe it is just under-diagnosed in Europe). He was off work for months, and very weak afterwards.

Mmm thanks piglet
It does seem to be quite rare, DF was in neuro ward for a while and seemed to be quite lucky compared to some of the stories we read

I know two people who've had this condition. Both recovered but it took it a long time of recuperation.

My mother had it, she was in hospital for over a year. There is a uk support group for it which is run by people who have had it. There are facebook groups too which were really helpful to me.

Its a bloody crappy shitty syndrome that has life long consequences.

I've a friend who has it. She collapsed some six or seven years ago and was left unable to move for a couple of weeks. After many months of rehabilitation and physiotherapy she was able to walk with a frame, and now she walks with sticks.
She has no feeling in her feet and her sense of balance has been totally wiped out. If she has to get up in the dark she falls over, so she has to ensure that her lighting (and an emergency backup) is always working.

I would say that she has never fully recovered although she is infinitely better now than when first admitted to hospital as then, she could only move her eyes.

It sure is a horrible thing,DF suddenly went weak and couldn't move, sounds weird but that's what happened, all very quick too
It seems he was quite lucky as his chest wasn't affected, but he sure is wobbly now! I don't think there is any way to strengthen his legs now tho Sad
