Recovering from gastritis, intolerant to alcohol, caffeine and sugary drinks - drink suggestions?!

Over the last two months I've had gastritis (with IBS, heartburn and acid reflux to add to the fun).

I've slowly recovered and gradually weaned myself a cocktail of medicines that came with their own problems. Food wise I seem to be able to eat moderately all the normal things which is a big relief.

However, I seem to have developed intolerance to alcohol (and to a lesser extent caffeine and sugary drinks). I can drink a small quantity but after a small glass I don't even enjoy the taste anymore and heartburn swiftly follows.

During the day, I'm embracing herbal teas and have surprised myself how little I miss the caffeine. However, while I don't miss alcohol per se, I'm really missing the ritual/social treat of a glass of wine. But clearly, it would be better for me to go without for a while at least.

I'd really welcome suggestions for alternatives to relieve the monotony of water, especially in situations such as taking a bottle to friends or buying a drink at the pub. Most of my usual non-alcoholic standbys are also out due to sugar or caffeine content.

I had gastritis a few months ago and it's a right pain (literally!). I've also gone off alcohol a bit and know what you mean re: the social aspect. Sadly, I'm finding a sparkling water with slice of lemon is OK - wouldn't have been typing that a few months ago but am trying to listen to my body and a least I can pretend there's a gin in there...

Thanks for replying, DottyDot :) So the sparkling part doesn't trigger anything for you? That's good to know. I'm feeling so ultra cautious atm. Wondering whether to brave a tonic water and lime!

I think I'm just going to have to get over the pathetic quality of bringing water with me to a barbecue or other social event. Maybe I should get myself some snazzy straws and umbrellas to make it look more interesting Grin

Grin yes straws, umbrellas and cherries all the way..! The sparkling bit is OK for me - I'm pretty much 100% recovered now but still can't touch orange juice (which is devastating as my favourite drink was gin and orange!). Can do wine but only a glass Sad. Never thought I'd be this healthy...

Yes, there doesn't feel much virtue involved when you have to be healthy Grin
