I think I had my first migraine last night. I had a headache from about five. I'd done a lot of driving yesterday, so put it down to that.

By seven I could hardly move and couldn't open my eyes. But I wouldn't say it felt like a normal headache and was sort if bearable if I kept completely still. I took paracetamol, but they made no difference and at 8.30 I started vomiting.

After that it seemed to ease a bit and I fell asleep at about 9.30. Feel really fragile today. No headache, but pretty fuzzy and weak and I can't face food.

Does this sound like a migraine or some kind of 24 hour bug? The pain in my head was not what I would have expected from a migraine - more like intense pressure than a sharp pain. Also, if you think it is a migraine, any tips on how to manage them?

TIA

It does sound like migrainey symptoms. Everybody is different. When I get them I have an unbearable headache, I can't move it's so painful! I also get arm weakness, nausea, vomiting and sometimes visual disturbances. They are horrid. The only thing that really helps me is sleeping in a dark room until it passes. Analgesia doesn't really cut it for me, especially if I don't manage to take it at the absolute start of symptoms. Hope you feel better soon Smile

It sounds like it could be either. I suffer with migraines that start with an aura, then a very painful headache and sickness. If I take painkillers at the first sign I can usually prevent the severe headache and sickness but I will have a spaced out feeling.

I have also had a similar bug to the symptoms you descibe. It was really intense but the headache wasn't too bad.

Sorry, that doesn't really help you much. I think you'll just have to monitor it and be prepared to take painkillers as soon as you get any similar symptoms.

Feel better soon!

Thank you both for your replies. I actually feel much better this afternoon. I felt very fuzzy this morning but actually feel pretty much back to normal, if a little weak. I suppose I'll just see if it happens again.

I did pass out last week. I passed out last week. I put it down to the heat, but I'm now wondering whether I should go to the GP, given both things together.

I have frequent migraines, around 12 or so a month. It does sound that it could be a migraine but people have such different symptoms. I used to get very sick when I was in my 20s but the headaches lasted about 6 hours. Now, if unmedicated, they can go on for 24 + hrs but no sickness. Headaches vary from one sided ice pick like stabbing to all across the front of my head. I made do with over the counter meds for a long time but finally went to the GP and got triptans, which are the only things that touch it. Aspirin helps sometimes as does taking ibuprofen + paracetamol at the same time (but not with aspirin!). Feeling tired afterwards is very normal - keep an eye on things and go to the GP if you get more frequent attacks. Hopefully for your sake it is a one off!

Passed out? You must see your GP. Keep well hydrated until your appointment, note down when and how long the migraine / headaches last. Ease down on your schedule if you can. Heat can put a lot of additional stress on the body, but you need your GP checkup for peace of mind

It could be migraine but see the GP. Are you eating properly ? Blood sugar crash and not eating regularly could cause both. If I miss meals it's instant migrania.

I used to pass out a lot when I was in my twenties as my blood pressure is a bit on the low side so I wasn't too worried about that on its own, although it hasn't happened in a good few years. Hopefully the migraine was a one time thing. Fingers crossed!

DSis gets them really badly. Very different to what I experienced. She goes numb down one side and can't talk - I remember once the GP called an ambulance because he thought she was having a stroke. It was pretty scary. Last night was nothing compared to that, which is why I wondered whether it might be something else.

I get them like your sis. I take sumatriptan at the first sign. Luckily I only have one or two per year. I had three before my gp felt I should be classed as a "migraine sufferer" in terms of other drugs etc. so now I can't take the combined pill and in future won't be allowed hrt.
