Trapped ulnar nerve?

GalaxyInMyPants · 06/08/2014 19:47

I think I've had one on and off for years. GP referred me for nerve conduction studies seven years ago which were normal.

It seems a lot worse now. Constant pins and needles and numbness in three outside fingers and palm. Dull ache in elbow a lot of the time. I also feel something twang in my elbow quite a bit and sometimes just below my shoulder as well.

Anyone here had this and did they do anything operation wise to release it or did they tell you to live with it?

I had something similar. Thoracic outlet syndrome nerve entrapment from my collar bone.

Physio was useless so I was sent to the osteopath which actually helped greatly.

I think if it is affecting you daily persist with the gp and ask for a referral to see a surgeon.

The one in my left arm is constantly irritated by arthritic swelling in my elbow. I have HMS, though and such a long list of niggles (bruising around the base of my left index finger, today, with no idea how it happened and not the first time I've experienced something like this and my back is playing up so my ligaments might simply be extra stretchy, this week) that I've given up grumbling.

I'm in pretty much exact same situation as ouryve. GP mentioned there was an operation where they could move the nerve in the elbows if I couldn't cope. It's getting to the point where there are times I'm so uncomfortable I could cry, but I'm terrified of them making things worse or anaesthetic failure or any number of HMS variables.

I think if you don't have any underlying conditions I would push the GP to refer you for surgery.

Thanks. I went to the GP today and have been referred for nerve conduction studies. She says if its trapped then I can have an op.

That's great! Good luck Smile

I have thoracic outlet syndrome too. Mine got so bad I've had surgery. The nerve conduction studies may come back negative to let you know.

It should be a vascular surgeon that you see if you need a referral.

Sorry the ncs could be negative even with the symptoms that got have.

GalaxyInMyPants · 08/08/2014 22:15

Last time when the ncs study came back negative the symptoms got better soon after. But its been goingon for ages now. Well they operate if the ncs is negative of I say the symptoms are too bad?

I had the op, about 5 yrs ago now. Really quick, in and out in a day and instant relief!

Sounds good.

Did you ever get pins and needles in the underneath of your forearm sometimes as well? I do, but not as bad as my fingers.

Underneath behind your elbow?

The ulnar nerve runs along the top and the radial nerve along the back of your arm. Both nerves can get trapped.

Knowing my luck they're both trapped at the same time!
