DP and I are both early 30s and reasonably healthy but we really need to improve our diet, and have such restrictions I don't know where to start.
He has been told that for health reasons, he needs to lose approx 3 1/2 stone. Two years ago, he went vegetarian and last year, due to migraines, he cut out dairy. So essentially, he is almost vegan (still eats eggs) and despite a heavy reliance on hummus at lunch time, I'm not sure why he isn't losing weight.
I have PCOS, am somewhat insulin resistance as a result, and essentially have a need to eat snack really frequently. I am not overweight, but I worry about the long term implications of all the sugar spikes and would like to feel on more of an even keel. I have acne for the first time in my live and am tired all the time.
Essentially, I've found it quite hard thinking of a diet that would work for both of us. I would like to see someone who could give us some guidelines: not really a meal plan, but more: make sure you eat eggs twice a week, lentils three times a week, and x amount of veg to get the right nutrients. Don't eat x, y, z.
We could probably afford to go private (I'm not really sure how much it would cost) but would love to hear from people who've been to dieticians if they're helpful, and if this is the kind of thing they could help with. There is obviously lots of general guidance on the internet, but most addressing healthy weightloss or a low GL diet which is what I should really be on doesn't deal with the meat and dairy restrictions. Individually, we could probably come up with ok plans to deal with our issues, but the fact is we live and eat together and its hard striking a balance.
