3 weeks into anti candida plan

Nellymay · 05/08/2014 23:15

Hi I'm following a plan with supplements and diet to hopefully rid myself of candida - no sugar no yeast based products no wheat no preservatives or msg type flavouring.

Candida has blighted my life on and off for most of my adult life it's embarrassing up dignified and debilitating
I've worked out a plan, I've been seeing a nutritionist, I've read books and researched it online.

If anyone want advice or wants to join me - I'm here. :)

Hey Nelly, hope you're getting better!

I'm off to see my naturopath today to see if I've made any progress. Will let you know :)

maiscout · 07/10/2014 14:40

ughhh that was an absolute waste of time! Naturopath had no idea what to do next so I guess I'm on my own, and £75 down!

Wish there was some sort of clinic you could go to that deals with this!

Nellymay · 07/10/2014 23:02

Ooh Maiscout, I bet you're fed up after seeing her what a waste of time and money!! What will you do next?

I'm fine still some die off feelings but much much less.

We've had friends staying this weekend and I was struggling to eat the things on my my plan and not drink alcohol and stuffing handfuls of pills down my throat without seeming like a healthy freaky type - I think they think I'm weird -or misguided. I think their food choices are bad anyway.

You could look on the BANT website for a naturopath or nutritionist
I only went to mine twice and then I realised her knowledge was a bit outdated, after I'd been reading lots of stuff online, so I worked a plan out myself. The thing I found is no one gives you a step by step plan broken down into times, and exactly what to do and when, etc I ended up reading 4 books and cross referencing them on the important stages. The leon Chaitow one, Erica Whites, Gill jacobs and the jane mcwhirter one I also found the candida diet website by lisa Richards good with common sense advice, and a forum too.
Let me know how you get on

OP posts:
maiscout · 09/10/2014 18:33

Haha yeah, fed up to say the least! ;)

I suppose I'll just carry on with what I'm doing on my own, and get re-tested in a couple months.

What kind of diet are you doing Nelly? I'm wondering whether I should be more strict or relaxed with my diet since I'm now two months in. Do you eat starchy veg, fruit, legumes or brown rice? and do you eat any dairy? I'm debating adding this back in as many people say its fine after a month but not sure.

Nellymay · 11/10/2014 19:13

Hi maiscout I'm fine and I hope you're feeling ok.

I try to avoid eating anything with yeast sugar wheat msg or preservatives
Basically I eat loads of veg and salad but no starchy veg eg carrots or courgettes, chicken fish steak pork or beef - organic if I can, no fruit, lots of pulses seeds brown rice, and oats, goat or sheep milk and yogurts I tried soya milk and didn't like it. No mushrooms or cheeses as they have fungus or mould on them, No alcohol no chocolate. I use olive oil lemon garlic onions for flavouring and also the marigold stock the gluten yeast and sugar free. I eat eggs too
I'm going to start adding things as from next week - like some fruit and nuts and more veg
I drink lots of water and instead of wine when we go to the pub i have soda water

I think my palette has changed - I was eating cakes and sweet things a lot before I started this prog and now I don't think I'd fancy them anymore.

What about your diet?

OP posts:
maiscout · 13/10/2014 11:52

Hey Nelly

Right now my diet is: All veg except carrots, peas, sweet potatoes and potatoes etc (really want to add these back in!)
1 piece of fruit a day, usually a green apple or handful of berries
Complex carbs like buckwheat, quinoa, brown rice or oat bran
No dairy yet except goats milk kefir and unsweetened greek yogurt
Eggs, chicken, Turkey
Chia seeds, flaxseed, hemp seeds and pumpkin seeds, Almonds
Lots of coconut milk, desiccated coconut, coconut aminos etc

No beans or legumes yet but I want to add some in soon. Just so conflicting whether they're okay to be eaten or not!
No alcohol
No wheat
No processed sugar
No mushrooms
No dairy (except goat/sheep milk and yogurt)

and that's it. bit depressing really haha

What do you think you'll add in first?

Sleepwhenidie · 13/10/2014 11:59

Hi Mais we chatted about this on another thread, I was going to PM as I saw my friend last week and I promised I'd update you, maybe the info will help anyone else reading though.

My friend did the anti-candida diet under the supervision of a naturopath for about 3 months earlier this year. It got rid of her symptoms, which included burnt tongue syndrome (which often goes along with candida as I understand). She then had the summer holidays, which she describes as involving lots of wine, french bread and pastries over six weeks! She remained fine but has noticed some symptoms gradually sliding back, but she believes that as long as she is sensible (80:20) approach, eating carefully and more or less to the diet at home but enjoying 'banned' stuff such as wine on nights out/weekends etc then it should be manageable. Hope that is good news! Her naturopath sounds excellent, based in London, if you are interested I could get the details and pass them on.

Good luck everyone Smile

maiscout · 13/10/2014 12:52

Thank you so much sleepwhenidie! That makes me feel so much better :)

Yes, I would love the details of her naturopath if possible! I'm in cambridge so would definitely make the journey for a decent naturopath :)

Thankyou!

Sleepwhenidie · 13/10/2014 16:23

I have pm'd you x

Nellymay · 14/10/2014 21:53

Hi Maiscout yes it's a boring way of eating :( I'm coming up to my 12th week on it . I'm looking forward to adding some fruit and more variety of veg - it's funny I've got used to some of it and find it hard to think of what I look forward to eating. I'll definitely look forward to having a glass of wine :)

sleepwhen it's very heartening to read about your friend as i worry about what I'll do afterwards when I get rid off the candida. How I'll eat and what if it comes back etc. Ive read that you should take a course of probiotics every 3 months and especially after a course of antibiotics

How's it going Nellymay? (just realised we both have May/mai in our names)

Quite a few of my symptoms have disappeared now :) and I've started to add in beans too so it's going quite well for me!

Have you been doing anything to deal with biofilms?

Nellymay · 28/10/2014 21:04

Hi maiscout I thought you'd disappeared as I'd not seen you on here for a bit. My birthday is May - what's your mai mean? What's biofilms? Glad you're starting to feel better :). I'm 14 weeks in and I've been on oregano complex with an anti parasite and I get some die off on some days - at least I know it's working. I still getting thrush and a coated tongue - I'm fed up with it :( but it's supposed to be that yeast is being pushed out of my gut and is looking for places to hide I keep using tea tree oil to try to kill it off

OP posts:
maiscout · 28/10/2014 21:20

Hey Nelly,

My name is Mai :) the scout bit is from my email address I created when I was 15 and just read to kill a mockingbird haha

Biofilms are things that candida can hide under when being attacked, so they can basically hibernate and wait it out. A few things have been proven to eliminate the biofilms... lactoferrin, NAC, clove oil and enzymes are a few. I need to add some of this into my protocol to make sure to catch the hiding candida too.

Not been on here much as I felt I had nothing to add since progress is so slow! I feel like I am slowly getting better but its a long process. I get how you feel. I still have a die off UTI and pretty much have a low level of die off all the time. Lots of spots and rashes :(

Just gotta keep going. We can do it :)

Sallystyle · 28/10/2014 21:20

Watching this with interest as I have all these symptoms.

I get thrush at least once a month, sometimes two. No, me a dh are not passing it to each other. I am sick of it.

I am such a fussy eater i'm not sure how long I could keep the diet up for though.

Nellymay · 28/10/2014 22:11

Mai is a lovely name. The nelly is ellen back to front (almost) I see what you mean now - that's happening to me with the thrush etc. on a good note I don't have the itchy flakey ears and scalp and the athletes foot has gone :) I'm taking clove oil in the anti parasitic / oregano complex. I'm going to see how I am when I've finished these ( I've got about 3 weeks of them left) and then hopefully go onto a maintenance programme. Yay!!

U2 someone on another thread mentioned that olive leaf extract cleared up her thrush

OP posts:
maiscout · 03/12/2014 13:03

Nelly, how is everything going for you? are you onto maintenance yet?

Most of my symptoms are gone and I've been able to add in more things but it's definitely still there! Hopefully a couple more months and then I can go onto maintenance too :)

Pip · 03/06/2015 07:13

Just wondering how you all got on in the end? Did the diet cure your candida? Have any of you stayed on some sort of maintenance diet?

I'm starting my anti-candida diet today. My cupboards are full of liver support supplements for die-off, anti-fungals and probiotics and the fridge is stuffed with greens. All a bit overwhelming!

I'd love to hear some more about your experiences.

shinggo · 27/05/2016 08:58

I brought my kefir grains in www.benefitsofkefir.com/buy-kefir-grains/ they deliver it quite slow but the quality is great.

I also found an interesting site that is full of information of kefir ~ www.thewalkingencyclopedia.com/kefir/

I'm pretty sure we're kefir lover! lol

shinggo · 27/05/2016 09:01

to be more about my case I drink kefir for more than 3 month and I saw great improvement in my candida and now I'm just drinking it for maintenance. I drink the water kefir not the milk one.

Simmi1 · 30/05/2016 06:34

Hi, wondering if I can join this discussion. I developed severe IBS after the birth of my second child 8 months ago. A recent stool test has shown an excess of candida glabrata and no beneficial bifidobacterium. I'm now on antifungal herbs, probiotics and a gut healing supplement. I also avoid sugar, wheat and yeast although do have the odd slip up. Nothing seems to help though. Any ideas? I drink loads of milk kefir (store bought I don't make my own). I also have no non bowel symptoms other than coated tongue. I've never had a Uti. I'm 40 and never had any bowel problems before. Now I get both diarrehea, constipation, gassy cramps and stomach pains. Wondering if the candida is the problem here?

kittykat818 · 10/07/2022 17:42

Do any of you have any updates? Did the diet work and how long did you stick to it? I get thrush every single month before my period!
