Breast Reduction

Hello, I am 48 years old. 8st 3lb. 5ft tall with a 34dd/e bust which I find a problem in many ways. I know I am lucky that they are healthy but I am visiting a plastic surgeon at 4.30 today to discuss a breast reduction.

Has anybody an experience of this.....

Would greatly appreciate anyone's experience.

Thank you

At 8 stone 3 and 5 foot tall, I believe that first of all you have the wrong bra size.

I am 5 foot tall and ahem a few stone heavier than you and I am a 30G / 32FF.

I would suggest re-measuring yourself first of all. thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk/p/fitting-advice.html

Thank you. I will need to search for a tape measure!

Visited the plastic surgeon and he said that he would not initially want to do the operation because of the scarring over the benefit. Which initially was disappointing but an honest opinion. I did want to cry because I had geared myself up I have the operation and have little breasts. He said mine were reasonably where they should be and still had elasticity.......very good for my age.

It was far more complicated than I imagined. Not the operation but all the things a surgeon has to take into account including rib position and nipple placement.

The other option would be liposuction but he said I would only loose about 15% volume as the majority of my breast is breast tissue not fat. It also runs the risk of nerve pain for 3 - 6 months .....which deters me as I have preciously had nerve pain for 2 years which thankfully I recovered from but it is embedded in my brain how awful that time was.

So what to do now?

Love what I have or opt for a major op that the plastic surgeon is not recommending. He said I am on the larger size for my frame but not overtly so.....

I think he sounds very honest and you should listen to what he says. I'm on the larger side, too with a small frame. Get yourself fitted for really good bras. M&s minimisers are quite good but I bet Rigby and Peller could help you. Also, in case you haven't really, really thought about your clothes, and so and get a professional shopper to help you.bthe right clothes, necklines etc make all the difference in the world and you sound as if you have a great figure, just a bit of clever disguising needed.Smile

It does sound disappointing that you can't just sort it out but surgery is a huge step to take. My BFF had implants and she really dislikes her new shape. And she had a lot of pain, too.

Love what you have and be careful what you wish for!

At least he was honest with you and wasn't just thinking about the money.

I'm 5ft 1 and hand got 34gg breasts which I'm intending on getting reduced next year (I used to be a DD/E before I had kids and was okay with it). However, although they are a pain and I find it difficult to buy nice clothes etc it is possible to get decent bras. I usually go to Bravissimo - pricey but decent. Freya is a particularly good brand- they make some pretty bras too. I don't find M&S especially good quality to be honest.

If you do sports have you tried Shock Absorber bras? I manage to run even with my massive boobs. They definitely slow me down but at least with a good sports bra I can actually run.

I'll probably end up no smaller than you are after the op. I know it's upsetting not getting the size you want (I'd be a c if I could choose) but you can cope with the right bra and clothes. Thanks

Thank you for the advice on bras and thoughts.

I am going to try to embrace my bust for a period of time but I have always been self conscious as I was called titsalina at school. I tell my DDs 14 & 17 to not care what other people say etc.... & here I am at nearly 50 still unable to move on from that.

He was trying to tell me that my size and position isn't that bad .......I would like lovely cute ones but I think I may have a warped view of what I look like.

I am looking online for a dress that has a V neckline and show some cleavage as I will not show any at all which I think probably doesn't help my cause as I always look like I've stuffed something up my jumper!

I think if I was gg he would have been more for it. He did say that it is one of the most rewarding surgeries that he does as it can transform someone's life in the sense of health & personal image.

I hate showing cleavage, especially as nearly everyone in the world is taller than me and can see straight down my front! I usually go for a eve neck but add a line of lace or something either my slip or a vest. Once I even cut up a pair of knickers to add a layer of silk lace IYSWIM? Getting the right neckline is absolutely vital. Nothing high, no roll necks. A nice scoop works. I'm sure smaller busted women have a completely different set of rules.

......It's funny how we are. I have the same thoughts about mine. It's crazy when you see some people bold & proud with lots of cleavage :)
