a few weeks ago I got the biggest spot imaginable just above where my cleavage would be if my boobs were big enough. It has left a horrd scar - whihc effectively still looks like a spot from a distance - and I really can't wear anything remotely low cut - not even a vest top. Is there any way to get rid of it? quickly?

My best mate caught chicken pox from my ds a few years ago. She was covered from head to foot in great big spots (and i mean big). Once they had finally healed she used vitamin E oil which is actually quite sticky and gloopy, but it worked really well and now you can't even tell how bad her skin was. Highly recommended. HTH

I had a scar from a spot exactly there and mine has GONE! Had it for literally years, that scar, tried the patches from boots and it went...can't remember the name of them but basically they are just self adhesive patches which you wear for 12 hours a day (I wore mine at night) over a period of quite a few weeks.

I noticed it get smaller while I was wearing the patches but I gave up a bit early for some reason, but next time I thought about it the scar had actually disappeared; I'd recommend these patches though they are not cheap.

I have a bad habit of picking, and have made a terrible mess of my arms and legs, I have loads of scars that now people have started to ask if I self harm! I laugh it off, but am really getting concerned as I just don't heal, I'm left with great big white scars, and in summer its even worse cause they stay white whilst the rest of you goes brown!

I've thought about going to the doctors, but I am too ashamed, so if anybody knows of a cream or some form of makeup that does actually work, I'd be eternally grateful!

I am so desparate now that I cover most of my body up its that bad! (in the heat we've had)

sorry thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat, I hope I didn't steal your thread there?

sleepysooz - of course not - seems like you're asking the same q. I might try the patches sunnysideup recommends.

Hi Sleepysooz - I have to cover up in summer too, and it's no fun in the heat we've been having is it?

I suffer from ("a chronic skin condition") nodular prurigo which means i get an outbreak of spots which grow in size and itch. They are on my arms and legs and according to the specialists will never get completely better. Unsurprisingly they are caused by stress, so i keep having outbreaks. They are unsightly and ugly and i hate them.

The only thing i can do (not with my legs, they remain covered up) is use spot consealer, but it's a bit of a long job sometimes and just like doing a dot-to-dot puzzle.

Are your spots itchy? I really would recommend you get referred to a skin specialist - there are things they can do for you, honestly. I was offered several treatments but one of them involved UVB treatment 3x a week, or a course of cortisone (i think) injections into each spot, which didn't sound very nice. But i would have taken the treatment if they'd have worked long term, but there are no promises with this condition, but there maybe with yours.

If you want to CAT me, you are more than welcome and i can give you some other suggestions? I didn't want you to feel you are the only one going through this.

chocol8 - I feel really guilty now, no mine are self inflicted injuries!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 16/09/2006 18:02

bio oil is good for scars, expensive though

sleepysooz · 16/09/2006 22:17

how much, anything is worth it, does it mask the scars or gradually fade them to an acceptable visibility?

Chocol8 · 17/09/2006 09:38

Sleepysooz - are your spots itchy? I used to think my spots were self inflicted cos i picked them or scratched them, but it turns out it was almost a sub conscious action to pick or scratch because of this condition.

The prurigo part of the name means itchy from what i remember. It may well be worth speaking to the doctor....i know you think this will be embarassing but he's probably seen alot worse! My doc is female and was really good.

My consultant looked like she had a broom stuck up her a**e but she was thorough and took a blood test to test for either parkinsons or huntingdons disease as it (whichever one it is) starts with itchy skin apparently.

Bio oil is meant to be good as Brummiemom said but i would get through a bottle a day!

chocol8 - mine arn't spots, I probably scratch my skin because it itches, end up scratching any bits that arn't soft or have say a little pin prick of something, then eventually end up with somewhere lovely to pick, I physically make things to pick because I love picking, its just a terrible habit!

If I have any cuts or grazes I always pick them till they are huge! Bad habit I know and it can't be doing me any good.

I have a recent theory that its because I feel out of control in my life and this is the only thing that I seem to be able to control! (gobbledigook or what)?

But what a mess I have made of myself over the last 3 years! (since I had twins) and I daren't go to the doctors I'm just too ashamed!
