Diarrhoea, cramps and sewer breath

Poor DH. He has frequent problems with his guts and is really suffering today. Of course he won't see a GP..

It's the smell that worries me, his breath tonight smells like his insides are rotting. He's told me before that he's had bleeding on the toilet.

What might it be and how can I get his (literally ) sorry ass to the doc?

Hi....I would get him to a doc tomorrow for a stool sample. Blood in diarrhea can be a sign of something like ecoli, which in turn can damage kidneys (which would cause foul breath as the toxins normally weed out would remain in his body). Is he still weeing?

ElPolloDiabolo · 04/08/2014 07:11

Thanks book. Still weeing. He reckons the blood is from piles.. He gets the trots a lot and is as skinny as a whippet so I wondered if it might be some longer term gut problem.

But he will not go to the GP, frustrating individual that he is.

Could be IBS ? If he's had the symptoms for a long time then probably not something sinister like cancer ?

Of course he should go to GP .

Aloe Vera ( a proper health food shop supplement ) is very soothing for the gut . Seems to help with both the runs and constipation .

Good luck .

Has he ever been tested for allergies intolerences and coeliac?

He really should see dr if it's coeliac then every day he's making the problem worse and he risks organ damage. (Sure I will be corrected if that's wrong but I'm aware through a friend that it can be very damaging to a body if not picked up)

Giles, you are correct with what you said about coeliacs. Very damaging to the body untreated.
OP, you may need to drag your dp to the gp to get it checked

Thanks all. He's booked a GP appt for later in the week.

He's loathe to go as he has been before with the same symptoms and got completely fobbed off.

I know GPs generally don't like self-diagnosers but should he suggest what he (you!) think it might be? Any particular tests he should ask for?

He just needs to be honest and tell them that it's been going on for a long time. Make sure he mentions any steps he's taken at home to help ie cutting out certain foods and what, if any, effect that had.

He needs to be clear about the time frame and all of the symptoms.
