Shivering

DH, 59, healthy as a horse, started shivering really uncontrollably for about half an hour this evening. No sign of fever, temperature normal. It was really quite alarming, but he seems much better now.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Shivering is the body trying to regulate itself and often means that there's an infection happening....or a high temperature. If he's not showing any other signs of infection or high temp I would see the GP anyway. Bacterial infections can be terribly sneaky and just pop up on people.

Ditto, I would see the GP. Could be a variety of causes, but some may need treatment (eg urine infection)

Thanks, Both. It was really startling. He asked me to hold him as he felt cold, and the rigor was so powerful that I was shaking from head to foot!

Rigor is very common with UTIs worth having check out with GP

DH is now presenting with cystitis type symptoms, so you were all spot on with your UTI diagnosis!!

If he went to OOH or walk in centre he'd get seen tonight and started on ABs. He'd need to give a urine sample obviously. It's a horrid thing to have.

Oh he needs seeing OP...I hope he feels better soon. I had a shocking UTI once and it really can make you feel bad.

Definitely needs seen. Dont let him wait. I know its late but you need to go to ooh. He needs antibiotics

Got the ABs, and downing bicarb, which has made a very significant difference.
