Oh no! Drapolene is amazing for the burn type - even works on real burns too.

Is he in disposables or cloth?

bambi06 · 13/09/2006 21:35

metanium ..boots/superdrug plus chemists do it.absolutely brilliant

AllieDelOllio · 13/09/2006 21:36

i'll second drapolene, and a chuffing great big plastic mat so you can leave his nappy off for as long as poss

Loshad · 13/09/2006 21:38

and some raw silk liners - should work whatever sort of nappy you are using

chlochlo · 13/09/2006 21:39

He's in disposables my dp got some metanium from morrisons earlier but i had to give him nurofen before bed to settle him and he won't even let you pick him up! Where can i get Drapolene?

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 13/09/2006 21:39

Oh yes - the silk liners are great. If you are using cloth, then soak them in chamomile tea, and then put them on damp - it takes the burny pain out a bit.

Flamesparrow · 13/09/2006 21:40

Boots do drapolene, chemists, and I think tesco might too.

chlochlo · 13/09/2006 21:41

I tried to give him a bath but that just made him worse he seems in so much pain

AllieDelOllio · 13/09/2006 21:48

poor lamb. drapolene is in lloyds chemist, in a white tub, cream is bright pink. Is pricey but worth it

starshaker · 13/09/2006 21:50

what make of nappie is it. dd had really bad nappy rash and we moved to tescos own (purple pack) and never had it since

Flamesparrow · 13/09/2006 21:52

Remember to tell your DP that you are putting on pink cream - or they come running in conviced that the baby is bleeding

hermykne · 13/09/2006 21:54

bepanthna too in sainsburys

dinny · 13/09/2006 22:08

chlochlo, sorry to hear you and ds still having a hard time. did gp prescribe antibiotics in the end? if so, that'll be your culprit.
my tips for nappy rash (ds had it so bad as had to have so many antibiotics last year)

  1. only use cottonwool and warm water
  2. dry area thoroughly and gently with soft towel
  3. air bum as long as possible
  4. put thin layer of Metanium on rash
  5. (if he has had antibiotics) get hold of some of this to sort his tummy out.

you probably know all the above, if so, sorry for not being more constructive! but Metanium is the best cream I've used. hope he's better soon.

chlochlo · 14/09/2006 19:40

Went to gp as it was evn worse and yet again they have blamed the fact that he is an "allergic" child it was a new gp and as i walked in she declared she was just reading his interesting notes!!!!!!!!
Persribed a steriod cream with anti fungel incase its thrush.

OP posts:
dinny · 14/09/2006 19:49

poor ds - and poor you - you must be at the end of your tether. hope the steroid cream clears it fast (btw, did he have antibiotics?)

KJSW · 14/09/2006 19:55

i use lansinoh cream. the one you probably bought for cracked nipples when breast feeding. It usually only take a night to work if put on at every nappie change

chlochlo · 14/09/2006 20:33

Dinny:yeah just a five day course

OP posts:
dinny · 14/09/2006 20:36

oh, well at least you know what has caused it (fwiw, ds had awful reaction to certain antibiotics - esp Augmentin-Duo). make sure to do the water-and-cottonwool only and the drying part is as important.

the cream she's given you will clear it v quick. and get some acidophilus powder or at least some live bio-yogurt down him. poor boy, really feel for you both

also, ds ended up getting balanitis (red and swollen end to willy) after antibiotics... not to panic you, just to warn you of the (slight!) possibility.

chlochlo · 14/09/2006 20:39

No you carry on warning I'm only used to little girls bits i didnt know boys got so sore!!!!

vitamin e capsules from a health food shop, break open and apply the oil inside to the skin. We used to use it for premature babies bottoms in the neonatal unit because their skin was so thin it used to break down really quickly. It does seem to speed healing. You could even try adding it to the other creams. My HV tutor used to swear by metanium.
