weight gain from untreated rectocele and uterine prolaps anyone?

Greetings everyone.
I'd like to know if anyone feels or has been diagnosed or experienced weight gain as a result of their recyocele and vaginall prolapse.
I have needed surgery to correct both but was told to lose weight. I am more than double my normal weight. Never grew up with weight problem. But do have Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism. Previously diagnosed with PCOS. I am almmost 60.
I suffer from chronic constipation made worse by the aforementioned two conditions. My intererior involuntary anal sphinctor appears to not be working properly either. I have lost my appetite. I am consistently impacted with stool. I have outer hemmorhoids and maybe fissure becaus of feeling of glass cutting my ass (had to throw in some humor!).
I don't know if this is a factorbut previously had an ovarian cyst followed by surgical repair done on two hernias done about 10-12 years ago. Three surgeries done and cut from groin to above belly button within two years of one another. I had emergency gall bladder surgery about three years ago. I had a laminectomy (back surgery on herniated disc accompanied by cauda aquina) done as an emergency about seven years ago.
Sorry to have to say so much but this has plagued me so long that I feel desperate. Please share with me your experiences, knowledge, suggestions for this, and anything you think might be of help.
I am going to see the colorectal surgeon thi? week. He had moved out ot town for about four years and has returned.
Very unhappy because of my conditions and inability to lose weight. I am sick of my obesity. Has caused a great depression.
Thank you. I am hopeful for many responses..and I am grateful for this forum and for your attention. Signed "all2getwell."

Apology. I proofread most of it but made an error in spelling right in the beginning! It is retocele and not recyocele. Vaginal not vaginall prolapse.
This is what you get writing from a slow tablet and late at night. Please forgive me if difficult to read. I know I wrote a lot initially. If you have typos, fear not my judgment! I frequently have them. But I wanted to be considerate of you and your time to read my post.

Oh you poor thing OP, I don't have much experience things that jump out at me from your post.

Is your hypothyroid treated optimally? As I'm sure you know weight gain and then losing it is a big problem, and I would be suspicious your dosage isn't high enough if you are still constipated. Do you have other thyroid symptoms still?

Also if you're chronically constipated are you taking/have you taken laxatives?

Have you been tested for insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes?

What's your diet/ lifestyle like?

Sorry lots of questions!

And is your depression being treated? Are you on medication? If so what? As some can cause weight gain as a side effect.

You do seem to be having a bad time of it! Flowers

Have you tried anything like taking movicol daily to soften stools and help with constipation? (must drink plenty too).

This may help the other symptoms whilst you get your diet and thyroxine in balance - many people on the Any Old Prolapse thread use it pre-surgery. Once your insides are feeling better, you will probably be in a better place to reduce your weight.

You won't gain weight by having a prolapse if that is what you mean- but being overweight does make them worse as it is constantly putting pressure on your organs and making them more liable to descend. You can gain weight if you are overeating and - because of being uncomfortable due to the prolapse- not taking exercise.

as others have said- what is your diet like? Are you eating enough fruit and veg, drinking enough fluids, and not eating large amounts of refined carbs and sugar?

I have some of the conditions you mention but not nearly all of them - you poor thing, it must be awful for you.

I think PCOS is notorious for making it difficult to lose weight. I suspect hyperthyroidism is too. For me, pain and constipation and the subsequent fatigue are enough to make me very unwilling to be active.

I'm on My Fitness pal. It's a free website where you can log your food intake and exercise. If I stick to the targets I lose weight.

If you go to the community tab on MFP then search on PCOS there are several people who either have or are trying to lose weight with this condition and often several other conditions as well.

For me I've had to make a decision and try and stick to it. But I find that site very inspiring to keep me on track. Even if I swim like a snail, if I stick to my MFP targets I'll lose a lb.

I think it may help you to see that you are not alone.

Rowena- would PCOS still apply to someone aged 60 who is post menopause, presumably?

rowna · 23/07/2014 17:27

I know pinkfrocks - but it might have accounted for additional weight up to age 60. And I suggested the thread because it has people with multiple health problems. It's just quite a good thing to search on to find it.

I realize this is an old post, but someone may read it like myself and may be going through the same thing, like I did myself. I would have suggested Armour Thyroid if on synthetic. This made a world of difference for me. Having Hashimoto's myself, I felt like death on synthetic thyroid meds and yes, I tried ALL of them. I was also later diagnosed with first stage chronic kidney disease and was told it would never go away, only stay the same or eventually I'd need a kidney transplant. My np sent me to a hormone dr who put me on Armour Thyroid. I learned if your thyroid is not treated correctly, it starts affecting your other organs which is what happened to me. Fast forward 6 months and being on the Armour and tons of vitamins for deficiencies and anemia (my endo never bothered to check) there was no more chronic kidney disease. My np and nephrologist had no explanation. If you have ANY type of thyroid disorder,, i strongly suggest finding a hormone/natural medication dr along with looking into Stop The Thyroid Madness....sooo much info and so many answers from thyroid patients themselves along with the Medical Medium. I cannot stress enough how important these 2 are in your journey to healing and feeling better. Sorry, as I am short on time but needed to respond as I too suffered sooo many years and it is so unnecessary for anyone!!
