Totally weird baby poo!

DS is six months, fed on half breast and half bottle, with one solid meal a day of baby rice and fruit puree. He's just done the weirdest poo ever - sorry for details but it's full of little black threads, it looks like he's eaten a reel of cotton! Worried it might be worms of some sort - but they aren't moving and I know that threadworms are white. Waiting for NHS Direct to ring me back. In all other respects he is his normal healthy self. Anyone else seen this before?

Banana?

suburbanjellybrain · 13/09/2006 17:29

def sounds like banana to me too

fluffyanimal · 13/09/2006 17:37

Seriously, is that what banana does? He just had his first portion of banana yesterday (we have only been weaning for about a fortnight).

I feel really foolish for ringing NHS Direct now.

Yep, definitely banana.

tadpole · 13/09/2006 18:56

If you think that's wierd, just you wait for raisins....

aitch71 · 13/09/2006 19:08

don't feel embarassed, i just about died when i saw dd's first banana poo. had to call my mum (better than nhsdirect any day) to check she didn't have worms...
I'd forgotten about that... thanks for reminding me. and if you think that's bad just wait 'til you see second-hand broccoli.

fluffyanimal · 14/09/2006 09:29

You lot are so knowledgeable, thanks for reassurance. NHS Direct of course had no idea what was causing it. But the mind boggles over how banana can transform into black cotton!
I'll be on my guard for raisins and broccoli!

You too will become an expert on "recycled" food

Courgette skins are fairly freaky too.

MegaLegs · 14/09/2006 10:34

And wait till they try Beetroot - quite pretty!

bunny75 · 14/09/2006 10:47

think the black threads is something to do with the tiny seeds in the centre of the banana....also, when a banana is opened and left....it goes black....so maybe when we digest it it does the same thing??

2plus2plus1 · 14/09/2006 11:42

Sweetcorn - comes out pretty much whole. At least you can tell what it is though

aitch71 · 14/09/2006 11:43

grape skins go inky black, most alarming. as do apricot skins.
