Anti Sickness Pills - Under what circumstances do they work?? Urgently calling anyone who knows!

I have suffered from emetophobia for as long as I can remember and have been prescribed Stemitil to take on an as and when basis whenever I feel I need to. I was always really worried about whether these actually work until I saw a posting on another website from a fellow sufferer who said she gave stemetil to her mother who had been suffering from D & V and it stopped her being sick. This seemed to be the reassurance I needed until I went to see my GP for a repeat prescription and she casually said "by the way these won't stop you from catching anything". Now I am really really worried once more. I know the season for D & V bugs is coming and I am working myself up about it terribly. The question in a long winded way is, will this medication stop me from being sick or would I need to use them to stop the sickness once I had an empty stomach? I honestly feel like I can't be sick ever again - it terrifies me and I am worrying myself silly. If they wouldn't work then what is the point of them at all?

Thanks

YOU REALLY MUST GO AND GET HELP, FROM A FELLOW EMETOPHOBE YOU CANNOT CARRY ON LIVING LIKE THIS

oppps sorry didn't mean to shout

go to the gp and tell them that your phobia is ruining your life, they will help you

I think that they would stop the sickness, but it would probably all come out the other end iyswim?

Thinking from pregnancy that they just stopped me being sick, regardless of my stomach contents.

Oh yes, agree with the Rhino too - the medication isn't fixing the problem.

I am on a waiting list to see someone but apparently there is at least another 18 months to go, plus I may be moving and will have to start at the bottom of the list again in my new area. Can't afford to go private.

Are you cured now? If so how did you do it? Flamesparrow - what medication did you have?

Mine has only ever been a mild phobia - I seem to be able to put it out of my mind until I am actually ill, and by then it is a case of crying lots until it is passed

I am also lucky that it is just ME that I have a problem with - can clear up after children ok.

Mine all stems from hyperemesis in first pregnancy - I don't know if that is why I don't think of it so much, because I tend to associate it with pregnancy until I actually get ill.

Hopefully they will work then. After all they are called anti sickness pills for a reason!

Thanks everyone for helping to put my mind at rest.

Aimsmum - I did thanks. I promise to write back soon - you know how rubbish I am at quick replies! I beleive in quality and not not quantity lol. (well thats what I keep telling myself so I don't feel so bad about being slow!!) How is your phobia? Are you feeling ok with it for now?

xx
