embarrassing smell

Since giving birth I've realised that down below can be a bit smellier. There's no additional discharge so pretty sure it's not thrush but suspect it might be bacterial vaginosis. It's not been too bad and kept at bay with regular showers (only use the tiniest bit of soap if really needed).
It's got a bit worse last couple of days so will phone tomorrow for a gp appointment but knowing our surgery I won't get seen till after next week. In the meantime any tips on what I could do - I've read that it's probably just an imbalance of the bacteria but is there anything I can do to help get the balance back?

Try a femine wash boots do one and there great

Feminine washes and soap are likely to make bacterial vaginosis worse. It messes with the natural balance of bacteria.

I had this years ago. Don't try anything perfumed it makes it worse. It will just get stinkier until people give you a 6ft clearance. The only thing that will budge it is antibiotics so try and get to a walk in or an emergency appt. tomorrow.

Stop using softener in your washing if you use it

How long ago did you have a baby? Do you mean you've noticed an issue in general terms over a few months, or something quite recent in the last few days?
The latter might mean some kind of infection, but I do know of someone, years ago, who accidentally left a tampon inserted after a period, which gave rise to a horrid smell. Could that be it?

U can get clear femine washes especially for getting the balance right

If you can't wait for the GP they sell these little things in Boots. They are like tiny toothpaste tubes full of gel that you squirt up your fanjo. Apparently they help "restore the vagina's natural flora."
They aren't cheap though but they have worked for me in the past.
I think they keep them next to the thrush cream.

BV would be evident though wouldn't it?
I've had it once and the discharge was a lot more than from thrush, quite thrush -like at first then turned almost liquid. There was a smell but not quite offensive.

I'd go to the gum clinic - the one I attended was a walk in had the facility to check for BV immediately. Within the hour the Dr diagnosed me and I had a prescription for some anti -biotics.
Don't use anything soapy or perfume down there, like with thrush it will make it worse and upset the flora further.

There are some natural remedies like tea tree, garlic and natural yogurt to restore optimal conditions but you need to know what it is for sure first.

Thanks - half hoped for a miracle cure such as wash in x and you won't need a gp and antibiotics but that was probably unrealistic Wink

I don't use fabric conditioner and soap is only what runs down there after washing other parts. Before baby I never used to notice a smell but in the last year since the bqby I've been aware of a slight smell but it's not been bad. The last couple of days it's become noticeable to me. Def not a tampon. Discharge is no different to what it's always been, although I must be ovulating as it's the time of the month with lots of mucus.

The gp does phone appointments same day so will ask for one of those tomorrow as well and ask them to recommend something until they can see me. I did also think that those products might make the balance worse but will see what gp or pharmacist can suggest.
