Irritable bowl syndrome in 4 yr old?

Dd1 has been (tentatively) diagnosed with irritable bowl syndrome. She is to follow a non-irritant-foods diet which should improve things, but to be honest, the diet we've been given is more or less what she eats/not eats already. Apart from tomatoes there isn't really anything on the list (caffeine, greasy stuff, fizzy drinks, etc.) that she eats, so I'm not really pinning my hopes on that.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

One of dd's friends is 5 and has suffered from irritable bowel for a couple of years. Hers is triggered by stress rather than by food, so the diet she was given didn't help her very much.

However, her mother has noticed that since the children started doing peer massage last year the IBS has improved, so she's massaging her every night, talking to her to make sure there's nothing worrying her, and making sure she gets plenty of time to relax.

Yes, I have wondered about the relation to stress as well. Or lots of excitement rather than stress. (Coming back from her first day back at (nursery) school, which she loves, it duly seemed ot flare up.)

Good tip, the massaging, thank you. Will look into that - she would certainly love it!!!
