nothing to worry about at all when pregnant it can be a cause for concern but only then really! when pregnant they will give antibotics through uv to stop it being passed on to baby as that is when it is harmfull

What do you want to know?

Everyone has a population of 'friendly bacteria' in their vagina. Sometimes less-friendly ones (like strep B, which normally lives in the gut) get in there too and can cause problems.
The antibiotics will kill the strep and leave the friendly bacteria to get on with their jobs.
Vaginal strep B is a particular issue in pregnancy because of the risk of infecting the baby, and strep B infections in newborns are not a good thing.
You can carry strep B in your vagina for years and years without it making you ill, but this means that any children you may have in the future would be at risk of infection, so your GP has obviously decided to clear it now rather than risk having to go down the IV antibiotics route later.

It's a problem during labour as baby can pick it up and in some cases can die. If you're not about to give birth then no need to worry, I would just take the AB's and get rid of it

mimi1uk · 12/09/2006 16:15

i had it and was given antibotics and also given uv prior to giving birth

MrsBadger · 12/09/2006 16:20
