My ds woke up this morning with the top of his head covered in yucky crusty bumps about 1/2cm accross. At first I thought he must have the pox (there's a lot of it about, but he dosen't have them on the rest of his body so I guess they must be bites. Any ideas what might have bitten him? we were out in the woods yesterday...

Hi there bbb, may still be the pox as it can spread over a few days (my HV said my DS didn't have it as it was just round his eye then the next day he was spotty EVERYWHERE IYKWIM!!! May also be impetigo, which can be treated with antifungal cream or antibiotics, but is more honey covered. I would suggest seeing the GP and taking it from there - you don't say how old he is, but if old enough and he has been bitten then he could take some baby piriton (from 1 year) if they're bugging him. Good luck (and if its the pox, try and find some mates whose kids have had it 0 my DS was the first of all my mates and I was norma for 3 weeks until it cleared up!!)

Thanks Judessis, still not sure and will wait to see how it looks tomorrow. Ds is 20mnths. Interesting the spots don't seem to annoy him at all, but then he never finds nettle rash itchy either. They are just in his hair at the moment, so will see what the morning brings.

Morning, if not worrying him and he's not ill then I wouldn't worry too much (unless in contact with other kids - their mums won't be happy without an option to avoid if he has a bug!). Lucky him not to be bothered by nettle rash - it drives me wild! If its the pox you'll probably find he's stasrting to get covered this morning, and maybe has a high temp - my DS went up to 39.8 about 3 days after the first spot and was a mare for 1 night, but otherwise was fine and actually learnt to walk while he had it (he was 13 months at the time). May well be that he was bitten in the woods! Hope he's OK this morning

Thanks again,

Took him to the doctor this morning because the bumps were even more oozy when he woke up, and looked like they might be infected. The doctor says it is probably just a bad reaction to insect bites. It made me realise how upset I would be if he did get the pox - bumps on my beautiful boy! Maybe I should shelter him until he's a spotty teenager...

Poor little thing, its horrible when they're ill isn't it - just try and stop him scratching! My DS scratched 3 round his eye when he had cpox and has very slight scars, but they're nothing compared to the scar in his eyebrow from falling over and landing on a toy - hoipefully he won't get it until he's old enough not too scratch, then he shouldn't scar.... Hope he gets better soon.
