Fibromyalgia

Doc thinks I may have either arthritis or fibromyalgia. He's sending me for x-rays to rule out arthritis as he thinks I'm too young (37). I've looked at FM websites and this sounds quite like what I've been experiencing.
Does anyone have/know anyone who has FM and can give me any advice on what to ask the doc or have any experience of FM?

Hi Iklboo - my dh has fibro (probably) and if you search the archives you will find a number of conversations with useful info in, foxinsocks had a suspected diagnosis for a while although I think she has ruled that out.

I will post more later as I am busy working (ahem, eating pizza and surfing MN in my late lunchbreak!).

Hopefully your x-rays will be looked at by a rheumatologist, they are also the specialists who handle fibro, although a referral to the pain team may also be appropriate.

Have a look on Amazon for books on the subject, Christine Craggs-Hinton has written a couple of good ones.

Back this evening, hope you are not feeling too bad just now.

Here's the old thread .

hi tribpot, how are you doing?

I am seeing the gynae on Friday so fingers crossed, I may FINALLY have some answers!

How's your dh doing?

tribpot · 12/09/2006 20:10

Hiya fox.

Good luck for Friday!

dh is okay, no progress on the fibro (or whatever it may be) but he is getting some benefit from the treatment for sleep apnoea - he was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea a few months ago.

Life not significantly easier, but we do what we can!

foxinsocks · 13/09/2006 09:19

I'm glad the sleeping is going better. Perhaps he will feel some improvements in his condition after a few months of good sleep! The sleep apnoea must have been wiping out his body. I hope it means that your nights are a bit more peaceful aswell.

Thanks fox - definite improvement for me as well as him - he took ds out for a 2 mile walk yesterday and seems okay today This is unprecedented! I had my neighbour lined up to take ds for his walk but he (dh!) said no, he would do it himself and get some shopping. This is, I am not joking, the second time dh has handled money since way before ds was born.

foxinsocks · 14/09/2006 11:12

that is fantastic tribpot - really amazing. Serious sleep deprivation can cause major health and psychiatric problems (and apparently death aswell)! I know you probably don't want to think it yet but wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a sustained improvement in his condition because of his better sleep.

One of dh's colleagues got ME so badly that she had to have a full time carer and was in a wheelchair. He heard yesterday, that after 5 years of her being this way, she has suddenly had a dramatic improvement and is starting to be able to do a few hours of work a week.

They really know so little about all these conditions don't they. I so hope things continue to improve for you and him. It would be lovely for you if he could take some of the responsibility off your shoulders now.

Cheers fox. It's this total unknown quantity aspect that's so hard to deal with, plus the problem of 'not looking ill' that makes most people think if you just pulled yourself together you'd be fine. And in my worse moments, I am guilty of thinking that about dh too, although I know it's not true. Even if he does 'just get better' which would be great, the fear is always there .. since you don't know what caused it in the first place, or what caused it to get better, will it come back and how will you get better again? Dh feels his comes in cycles of seven years.
