Apart from shooting it.

for the second time in a week, ds2 has come in with cat shit on his hands.

Either that or the cat's owners has warned their wittle fluffy-wuffy puddy-tats not to go near baaaad shouty lady with nasty hose. Cats aren't territorial, they are just nasty arrogant creatures. Except for the one in my kids nursery, it's lovely

Silent Roar. It's little pellets soaked in an extract of lion urine. We can't smell it, it's harmless to children, and in any case they can't see it to pick it up as it just looks like the rest of the earth. But you have to reapply it every time the ground is disturbed (by planting, for example). Can't remember where I got mine from, but you can Google it and find plenty of websites that sell it.

cece · 12/09/2006 16:23

zap it with a water pistol.

i brought a cat alarm from homebase , cost me £30 but we dont have cats of fox poo in our garden , they can detect any movement. You can hear it ever so slightly so i just switch it off when we are out in the garden! HTH

Mateychops · 12/09/2006 16:53

Tell me, who collects the urine from the lion?

TenaLady · 12/09/2006 16:57

BTW, you need to remove as much of the little sh*t as you can, whenever you see it, and sprinkle the ground there with something strong-smelling (eg ammonia, chilli powder) as sometimes a cat can be super-territorial and defy the Top Cat smell.

cowmad · 13/09/2006 23:45

like lion spor or white pepper!!

bananaloaf · 13/09/2006 23:47

i am a cat lover but would spray cat with water to deter. cats prefer not to foul their own garden.

TenaLady · 14/09/2006 13:39

Thanks for that prettycandles ive popped it in my favourites

PrettyCandles · 14/09/2006 13:46

Not quite, cowmad {grin]. It has to be something that will (a) mask the smell of the poo and (b) be nasty for the cat to smell - though of course harmless.

meysey · 14/09/2006 22:24

chopped garlic!

it's stopped dogs weeing on our front step, and foxes from crapping by our sandpit. I am sure it works for cats too.

and it's cheap...

QueenEagle · 14/09/2006 22:27

Well obviously you teach your kids to throw a football at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a serious note, we tried pepper dust and pellets to deter our cat from crapping on the new gravel we laid in our front garden. Neither worked. We resorted to buying one of those devices which emit an inaudible sonic sound - and our cat has never gone near it again. They cost about £30 but we feel it's money well spent.

nearlythree · 14/09/2006 22:29

Zap it with a waterpistol.

We have woodpigeon turds all over our garden

ediemay · 14/09/2006 22:32

borrow a big, drooly, bitey, hungry dog for a week

marthamoo · 14/09/2006 22:37

I've tried pretty much everything on this thread - and none of it worked.

I chase off any cat I see in the garden - even if it's just looking at my garden - and keep the grass as short as possible, that seems to help.

Clear it up straightaway, as they seem to come back to the same spot - if they do pick a spot then I stick loads of garden canes in it to make it too hard for them to find a place to plonk their furry ass.

Touch wood (and I am loathe to say this in case it's tempting fate) we haven't had any over the summer and it's been a problem since we moved here nearly 6 years ago.
