my six year old has come to me tonight and he said there was"worms moving" in a bit of poo he did in his undies by accident. im devastated.. i feel such a failure as a parent, i looked it up on nhs direct and it said the causes were poor hygeine, and common in family groups living in cramped living conditions. i feel so guilty that i havn't made the boys have a bath every single night.its all my fault, i feel so bad. ive got four kids and im running around like a headless chicken trying to keep the house in order, i do four loads of washing every day, theres always clean towls in the bathroom, i don't know what else i can do without having a nrvous breakdown.

You shouldn't find any in her poo anymore. Did you use the sachets or tablets?

I wouldn't bother with washing all the bedding still. If they wear undies in bed and you've done the initial blitz you should be fine. The nail scrubbing and hand washing is something you need to keep up with them forever though! You wouldn't believe how many colds you can prevent by washing your hands PROPERLY and regularly.....

Am at home right now with horrid cold. Thought I was getting flu it came on so quickly but not. I don't usually take a day of work with a cold honest! Up 3 times last night with dd but got a lie in this morning and should get some sleep today. Just off to express...see ya later.

Whole family had them and I was pregnant so couldn't take the medication. I'm always cleaning but when you realise how many thousand of eggs are laid and how tiny they are you can see how they spsead, only have to swallow one egg and it will then mature and the cycle goes on!

After the other 3 had the medication, I stripped and washed all bedding, used bleach on a cloth to wash door handles, a damp mild bleach solution on a mop over the floors (including the carpets)and cleaned bathrooms thoroughly.

Not sure that was entirely necessary but it made me feel better! I then paid particular attention to handwashing (easy to forget/get lazy sometimes) first thing in morning and before food. All cleared up, including mine as though I didn't have the medication, they only live for a short time in the gut so so long as you don't swallow any more eggs your'e ok.

Finally, they can spread so easily through the air and get onto toothbrushes etc so its no wonder it gets passed on!

Thanks OB. Feel much better now Pripsen sachets contain Senna, so if not constipated, they can give you the runs.

jennster · 13/09/2006 14:05

Oh and if you only treated yesterday, there could have been about still last night, though they shouldn't have been alive....

Panyanpickle77 · 13/09/2006 14:35

see, now I'm paranoid......if I look at dds poo am I likely to be able to tell whether she has worms? Do they actually look like worms, or am I just being thick?

orangeblosson59 · 13/09/2006 16:02

no one been for a poo today so hopefully things ok will still check tonight for any wrigglers am going to send her to school in the morning but will discuss with teacher if anyone else has reported it. i think some people too embarresed to say .ididnt see them in the poo the first night so i waited till she was sleeping ,was hot and then looked tiny white threads cleared them with a wipe washed hands then promptly vomited into the toilet ,still on a mad cleaning frenzy might be too late but makes me feel better although not minging in the first place after this and nits can now see how people develop ocd!!!!!!!

orangeblosson59 · 13/09/2006 16:06

mrsaek definately not thick i looked up pictures on the net to see what to look for although didnt get much sleep that night

jennster · 13/09/2006 17:53

I think you need to have been infested for a while to see them come out in the poo.

orangeblosson59 · 14/09/2006 14:28
