Apologies for the subject matter, but I am quite desperate!

I had my bottom wisdom teeth out a few days ago, and have been eating liquid/mushy foods since. All going well with the teeth, however I am currently backed up to fuck due to lack of fibre in my diet over the last few days.

I am in bloody agony. Is there are quick fix for this?? I've just checked online and it seems that most laxatives take 5-8 hours to work. Does anyone have a wonder remedy that will flush me out pronto?

P.S. Not in the UK so currently outside of normal doctor's hours.

Also unable to move far from the loo.

Feel sweaty and nauseous as well, if it is at all relevant.

I find sugar free sweets go right through me, some swear by strong coffee. Sit on the loo with your legs raised will help too.
Good luck

WaxyDaisy · 08/07/2014 12:07

Drink a punt of cold water whilst sitting on the loo with feet on step/books?

WaxyDaisy · 08/07/2014 12:07

Pint, not punt Blush

scouseontheinside · 08/07/2014 12:09

OK, thanks for the quick replies. Am quite scared of straining as I have had haemorrhoids within the last 12 months. If I never repeat that experience, it will be too soon.

Large strong coffee or fresh orange juice (or both).

Porridge always swiftly produces results in this house too if you can manage to make and eat it?

Glycerine suppositories. Don't ask me how I know this.

LadySybilLikesCake · 08/07/2014 12:20

Coffee.

Figs.

Ripe pears.

Fibrogel (I think that's what it's called, my mother used to drink it. You can get it from the chemist and mix it with water, then drink it).

All of the above ^^.

I hope you manage to sort it.

brunette123 · 08/07/2014 12:20

Yes glycerine suppositories you should get relief within about 10-15 in my experience :)
I would recommend though, once you put it in (having run it under the hot tap for a few seconds to make it more slippery to insert) put a pair of big old knickers on so that if you feel the urge before you get to the loo it doesn't go on the floor - sorry if tmi but best I tell you and try to keep it in as long as possible don't just go to the loo at the first twinge if you can wait a bit.
Do try them!

desertgirl · 08/07/2014 12:24

Wine? Works for me...

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 08/07/2014 13:52

You shouldn't feel sweaty and nauseous with constipation tho should you? Correct me if I'm wrong! I would see GP just in case it's some sort of complication/obstruction after surgery. Glycerine supps are good tho

scouseontheinside · 08/07/2014 13:53

Thanks everyone! I return victorious!

Pain was terrible so in the end had DH run me to the after hours clinic. They gave me some super strength suppositories and I was ripping it to the loo 10 min later.

Apparently the pain killers I was given back you up if you use them for longer than 2-3 days. Just a warning to anyone else who may be gearing up for a similar op!

Diet coke works for me

scouseontheinside · 08/07/2014 13:58

Space I feel fine now, and was feeling fine before the constipation attack so I assume it was just stress? Doc didn't seem to think it was too unusual.

My sympathy OP as I had wisdom teeth out earlier this year and jaw surgery a few weeks ago, so I've been there!

Codeine does indeed cause constipation and other meds can also have issues, as will a sudden change of diet ime.

It won't all be fixed until you're eating well again so start preventative steps now! Prune juice if you can stomach it (I can't) and I'd recommend taking lactulose for a few days until the meds clear your system. Whizz up fruit and veg for a smoothie/juice just to get it into your system.

More water than you can imagine drinking!

And probiotics if you've been taking antibiotics to repair some of the damage ABs do.

Good luck!

marne2 · 08/07/2014 14:01

Sending you sympathy, I didn't poop for almost a week when I had my wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago, a combination of poor food I take and pain killers Sad, you can get some good tablets from the chemist ( can't remember what they are called but they work ). Hope you feel better soon xx

Harry1603 · 08/07/2014 18:40

I had an op a couple of months ago and, even though I didn't take the painkillers, I was still bunged up. I found that apple juice and dried apricots sorted the problem out pretty quickly but, with hindsight, I shouldn't have had them both together Blush

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 08/07/2014 18:55

If the DC are ever constipated cloudy pressed apple juice seems to work well, and pretty quickly.

poshme · 08/07/2014 18:58

Kiwi fruit is brilliant- especially if you eat the skin.

Meow75 · 08/07/2014 19:01

I guess you had cocodamol (codeine and paracetamol) then?

I use them if I have a migraine, but the dose (2x30/500 capsules) is guaranteed to leave me in massive trouble, and if I have a migraine that hangs around, I have to have half doses but for a longer period of time.

My sympathies, OP.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 08/07/2014 21:08

Ah well all's well that ends well!

4seasons · 09/07/2014 21:53

Codeine is notorious for causing constipation . If you are still on the mushy food try 40 gm of AllBran with banana on the too or dried apricots sprinkled on top . Add milk to the All Bran and warm for about 50 seconds in the microwave . It makes it all mushy and is actually very palatable .

4seasons · 09/07/2014 21:55

Forgot to say ... If you increase your fibre intake you must also increase your water intake ... just water will do .
