At what age are they supposed to start losing their baby teeth?

That is it really. Bit worried as DD had a wobbly one fall out today and she is only 5.5 years old. No root on it though.

DD1's 5.8 first milk tooth fell out today

TinyGang · 10/09/2006 20:28

I think dd lost her first one at nearly 6. I remember thinking it seemed early, but her friends soon followed.

Not sure about the no root part though. Are you sure it's not just very tiny? Sometimes it's hard to see.

LIZS · 10/09/2006 20:35

Several of dd's last year Reception class lost their first few. ds was relatively late at 6 1/2.

singersgirl · 10/09/2006 20:36

We know quite a few children of 5.5 and up who have lost teeth. One little girl in DS2's new Y1 class, who turned 6 this week, has lost 8 teeth already. Another boy, also 6 this week, has lost 4.

WigWamBam · 10/09/2006 20:37

Baby teeth don't have roots when they fall out, do they? Don't the roots become reabsorbed?

One of dd's friends lost her first on her 5th birthday, and several of them started losing them in Reception. Dd is very jealous, for some reason she can't wait to start losing hers.

IdrisTheDragon · 10/09/2006 20:38

I lost my first one before Christmas when I was in reception - so I was 5.3 at the oldest /

cece · 10/09/2006 20:38

OK thanks feel reassured.

The root. Ds got a tooth knocked out last year when he was 20 months. The dentist said you don't often see milk teeth with roots on as by the time they fall out the root has 'dissolved'. She showed all the dental nurses it

My dd (5.7) has her first wobbly tooth at the moment - how long do they generally take to fall out?

cece · 10/09/2006 20:44

not sure. Last night while cleaning teeth she mentioned it was hurting. I mumbled about a visit to dentist. Then this afternoon about 3.30 she showed me the wobble. Thne it fell out about 6pm!

she is sooooo excited about the tooth fairy. For the first time for years she has gone to sleep with no playing for an hour in her room first

dd has had a wobbly tooth for nearly a month , she's 5.4.

We all have to look at it and wobble it every day. It's so funny! I sing the hokey-cokey while I'm doing it, dd not too impressed.

ds also informs us on a regular basis that he has a "wolly toof" and again we all have to perform a close inspection. He's 2.6 btw (as if you hadn't guessed).

CookieMonster · 10/09/2006 20:46

sounds like it happens quite quickly then ... dd complained last night for the first time while she was eating her dinner and it's still hanging in there tonight although she says it doesn't hurt any more so maybe that means it's about to fall out! How much does the tooth fairy leave these days??

cece · 10/09/2006 20:47

just what I was going to ask. was thinking 50p!

OP posts:
Mercy · 10/09/2006 20:48

Oh cece, how cute. What's the going rate for the tooth fairy? I was thinking 20p.

cece · 10/09/2006 20:48

20p sounds even better!

SSSandy · 10/09/2006 20:51

Dd is nearly 6, hasn't lost any yet. Most of her friends had lost more than one by the time they were 5 though.

CookieMonster · 10/09/2006 20:52

Yes, I am hoping to get away with 20p - dd doesn't understand money really yet, so I'm sure she'll be thrilled just to see a coin under the pillow in the morning (or should I say at 3am which is her normal waking up time at the moment )

pupuce · 10/09/2006 20:53

Girls apparantly loose sooners than boys - looks like this thread proves it!
DS nearly 7 has no sign of loosing a tooth - HE is annoyed
Dentist told me he might be 8 when he loses his first tooth!

cece · 10/09/2006 21:10

DS was 20 months, but there was a swing involved

OP posts:
chlochlo · 10/09/2006 21:18

dd got one thats been hanging on by a thread for ages, she gets a bit upset when they come out.

Cappuccino · 10/09/2006 21:20

dh made us give dd TWO QUID from the tooth fairy because we were on holiday and he wanted it to cover an ice-cream

ffs, we've two kids. It's going to cost us over £100

cece · 10/09/2006 21:48

LOL when I said 20p to DH, he looked crestfallen and muttered about a pound. Don't think he has thought it through!

DS lost his first tooth at 6 and a half. He lost the second a month later and has no more wobbly teeth as yet. He is 6 and 9 months now.

kittywits · 10/09/2006 22:16

ds1 has just turned 8 and he's only lost 2. ds2 is nearly 7 and he hasn't lost any yet!!!

tigi · 10/09/2006 22:17

ds 7 in couple weeks - not even a wobble yet!
