I am heading for prolapse repair I have posterior prolapse that I will need the operation on and also anterior but they said they will not do anything to that. When I saw consultant on NHS she said well as long as you are fine with all the potential risks I will do the surgery. This did not give me much confidence about my decision to have surgery but made me research more. I know there are few threads on this but have anyone here had prolapse repair and had terrible side effects like pain and bowel bladder control issues? My main issue is pressure and emptying bowels but I have no pain. I am scared that it will be worth, any with personal advice/ experience please share...

It is probably best to read the any old prolapse threads - they give you a good idea of what people actually go through.

I had a rectocele repair over a year ago, and the only downside was that it might not do what I wanted (poo straight) and it didn't. However, I feel much better repaired, my tampons don't fall out and have got better at controlling constipation which makes a lot of difference. So I am glad I did it.

Last year, there was someone who had a lot of pain, which I had never heard about, so worth reading about that.

I had a repair done 25 years ago. It was everything- uterine, bowel and bladder but mainly bladder- anterior wall.
I didn't have any of the horrible things you hear about though I was unable to pass water for a week afterwards due to bruising. I still have a fairly slow stream due to the tightening up that was done.

You need to go back to the dr if you can and ask all the questions you want- percentages of side effects, what to expect, and so on. You also need to be sure that the person who does it knows what they are doing and is experienced. My GP at the time recommended one consultant over another due to experience. I was fortunate that we had private medical cover, but even if not this is the sort of conversation and info you need.

Hope it works out well.

Have had two anterior repairs due to difficult birth. One when I was twenty five and another when I was thirty. No one mentioned side effects and these ops were done in 1966 and 1971. You have to be careful about lifting for awhile but otherwise things relatively normal.

Sorry to hijack your thread, i'm after some advice post op and wherever I post I don't seem to get any replies??
I had posterior and anterior repair 11 days ago caused by horrible forceps delivery of my only child. I'm worried that the symptoms I had pre surgery are still there! Anyone give me some advice or give me best place to post, have tried general health, childbirth and raggedies threads already.

I'm not sure what "bits" would need repair but I'm not right since having a horrific forceps birth 2 years ago. I

Impala - I'm not sure what Raggedies thread is - I tend to look at the series of threads called "any old prolapse" for advice. I think it's usually active.

Thanks rowna I'll give it a try.
