Does anyone know anything about hamstring injuries?

I'm not sure how I did it but it's been pretty painful for 2-3 weeks now. I've been trying to rest it but it's difficult impossible . Any advice? How long does it take to heal? Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Thanks!

Hi. My Dad is currently having problems with his, he had a GP appointment and is currently having Physio for it. They gave him a series of exercises to do at home.

No I haven't had it assessed yet. I suppose I should? Thanks both.

When you say hamstring, where exactly is the pain and when? Any bruising? Normally soft tissue injuries heal by themselves within six weeks treatment may help to speed this up and assessment will help to work out what you have done to your hamstring.
Home help includes icing it (though this is best done within 48 hours of muscle strain it is worth doing as it will help reduce inflammation) and stretching it - look up hamstring stretches on google images and start with the easy ones!

Thanks Waily. The pain is down the back of my left thigh. It is painful to sit down and especially to get up afterwards. It gets worse in the evening. No bruising. Just after it happened I had to sit in traffic for for about 6 hours (not an automatic) and that really set it off. I'm doubled up after I get out of the car. Does it sound like hamstring to you?

Please appreciate that its impossible to actually diagnose on the internet but your description of pain on sitting and driving is not really consistent with hamstring strain. If I had to guess I would go for it being likely that a muscle in your bottom is probably referring pain down the back of your thigh. It could be the sacroiliac joint either...
Try these stretches - you should feel it in your bum!

A GP will help with the symptoms (i.e pain relief) but if you want to get it sorted I'd self refer to a physio, chiro or osteo and they will be able to tell you what is causing your pain and how to treat it.

That's interesting about it possibly being a muscle in my bottom as the discomfort does seem to be shifting upwards. I will try those stretches and then get myself to a physio. Thank you Waily.
