Contraception - Advice Please......

Had my DS 14 weeks ago, at the time hospital gave me cerazette (POP), I have not taken it as suffered badly from depression when on the pill in the past, was given prozac (for 5years!)before anyone even contemplated changing my pill, and it wasn't until I stopped of my own accord(decided 10years was long enough as far as artificial hormones were concerned)that the fog lifted!

Anyway now I obviously need to find some form of reliable form of contraception, DP has been using condoms, but to be honest I don't really like them anymore than he does and having read in the Times today that semen makes you happy(!) would like to find an alternative.

I haven't ruled anything out completely, except a diaphragm as apparently unavailable in france. Have been contemplating a coil, but have heard some bad stories - my gynie seems quite keen on one with hormones but figure that would be just like taking the pill, or at least have similar effects?

I've just started taking Cerazette in the last 5 months or so M2M.

I was on the combined pill for years then a 10 year break to have my babies when it was just condoms.

I had terrible PMT every month and heavy loss so after a long talk at the 'clinic' with an understanding doctor I was happy to try this mini-pill.

It's only progesterone and the benefits to me far outweighed any disadvantages. My PMT disappeared practically overnight and after 3 months of continual but light loss, it's just 2 days of show a months, which may disappear altogether. It's been a life changer for me.

Have you really decided it's not an option for you?

Have posted a msg on the other thread with same title.

Progestogen is the hormone responsible for depressive symptoms in hormonal contraception, so the mini-pill (progestogen only), the implant, or the IUS (coil with progestogen AKA mirena) could all potentially have this effect although logic tells you the IUS would be least likely (as smallest dose reaches the bloodstream). Having said that, some people find that if you stop ovulation, it can help PMS, (as in emmmatoms experience) so cerazette might work because it will do this (as will mirena in many people). However you can stop the pill if you don't like it but getting the implant or mirena out isn't as straightforward.
