Ouch. Stitches- what should I expect?

Hi, I had laparoscopic surgery almost 2 weeks ago. All sutures evidently absorbable. The external ones are all still in situ, and the ones in my pubic area are starting to get quite sore. No overt signs of infection, skin not overly red, no obvious pus, but increasingly a bit more uncomfortable, sore to wear trousers etc.

So even though they should be absorbable, do you think, as 2 weeks have passed, I ought to get them removed? Or am I just impatient?!

Thanks

they shouldn't be getting more painful, could you get your gp or nurse to check them?

AppleSnapple · 06/07/2014 09:36

I might see if I can register locally tomorrow- staying with my parents so they can help me with childcare atm and am 490 miles from home! Wasn't sure if progressive soreness could maybe just be tightening and healing, and I'm just being a wuss! Thank you

doesn't sound wuss at all. is there a walk in centre near you?

AppleSnapple · 06/07/2014 11:06

No, we're sort of in the sticks! I'm not unwell so I guess I'll see what tomorrow brings, and take your advice and find a gp if it's no better. Thanks!

Don't wait /be too patient - it really shouldn't be getting more painful .

This happened to me when I was sterilised. The stitches in my belly button got a little red so I went to have them out. The nurse said they were okay, it was my body not being happy with the foreign bodies but removed them. Several days later they were pussy. Absorbable? Yeah, right.

Also, I had stitches in my elbow recently, the surgeon said to leave them in for a fortnight because it was a joint. Ten days later the skin was growing over them. I had them removed but in two places there was some still under the skin. I got one bit out with a needle a couple of days later. The other bit took three attempts to remove. A different nurse couldn't find it. Over a week later I managed to dig it out.

So yeah, go get them checked.

Ok dwerf, thanks. If I still feel like this tomorrow I will definitely register w local gp. Feeling less good today but may be a coincidence!
