Yesterday I went to the school to help out, I was fine then iwhen I was sat down writing something, I couldn't see properly out of 1 eye, I sat looking around and everything in one corner of right eye was 'moving' and I couldn't see properly. I felt a bit funny so went and sat with my friend and texted DH which was very difficult because I couldn't spell some of the words I was trying to and I couldn't remember for the life of me what letter 'feeling' started with. When DH arrived, I was trying to tell him about the hall and stalls and every few words I couldn't say what I wanted to say. It was awful. Luckily it passed after about an hour but I was left with a bad headache and felt very tired and groggy and drained. Went to bed and in the morning my head wasn't anywhere near as much but I still had a headache until late afternoon and I still feel tired and groggy.

I assumed migraine but my grandad googled as he was concerned and said the symptoms match a mini stroke. Now I'm scared! WWYD?

I had a mini stroke when I was 35. I couldn't lift and hold my left arm and leg up and was very disorientated. I went to the doctor and had an mri scan which showed it was a stroke. I had another scan about 9 months later and the bleed had shrunk. Apart from feeling strange for about a week or so it hasn't affected me.

Perfectlypurple · 05/07/2014 22:39

Meant to say - go to doctor or you will just worry. My doctor said you can get body migraines so don't assume the worst.

BlueSkySunnyDay · 05/07/2014 22:40

I think you should get a medical opinion on this - it does sound possible and if it was its best to deal with it quickly.

Probably lots of other things it could be but if you are anything like me your imagination will make it easy worse than it probably is.

Did you do the Nhs direct self diagnosis thing online?

BlueSkySunnyDay · 05/07/2014 22:41

"Way worse" bloody phone!

Eveningsaregettingshorter · 05/07/2014 22:42

Definitely get this checked out by your GP

Iggly · 05/07/2014 22:44

Yes it is possible - didn't that happen to the news reader - he had something similar before his big stroke?

Sparklingbrook · 05/07/2014 22:47

I get migraines exactly as you describe. Peripheral vision goes all wavy and wibbly, can't read or text/type and can only see half of things. Last about 20 minutes. Then follows a banging headache which lingers for about 24 hours.

CrapBag · 05/07/2014 22:56

I've never suffered with migraines and the symptoms fit with the aura thing you can get as a warning to the migraine.

I did do the NHS symptom thing and it said to get medical help because you have to tick the box that says you have had 1 or more of these symptoms recently and the only 1 for me was the speech. Didn't have the arm thing or tinglying etc.

Monday seems bloody far away for a worrier with an overactive imagination.

My first migraine came about 6 months after I had DC1 15 years ago, I had never had one before and I was terrified.
I spoke to Mum who said she gets the same and so does my Aunt.

AnyaKnowIt · 05/07/2014 23:03

Sounds like a migraine to me, I lose my sight and speech.

But do get checked out if you are worried.

makingdoo · 05/07/2014 23:09

OP this happened to me last week.

I had a strange feeling on Thursday and had to sit down. My speech was slurred on and off for a day or so and I had pins an needles in my face. Had a banging headache that wouldn't go away so went to the GP on Monday morning.

My GP referred me on to the hospital and they kept me in overnight for observation and did lots of tests including a CT scan. All came back clear and they diagnosed it as a migraine and prescribed beta blockers to prevent further attacks.

It was scary at the time and I'm still shattered a week later. I would go and seek medical help to be on the safe side.

mousmous · 05/07/2014 23:11

just go and get checked out now before the football is over for today
hope you feel better soon.

Passmethecrisps · 05/07/2014 23:15

I have had a migraine just like this which included going numb/tingling down one side. I was 24 and on a trip with school kids - I have never been so scared. I have never had a scan to confirm a migraine but my GP is pretty certain that is what it was.

However, were this to happen again I would get it checked out - the symptoms are just too close and you will only worry if you don't

CrapBag · 05/07/2014 23:25

Thanks.

Will keep close eye and if it starts again, I'm off up the hospital, if it doesn't then I'll try and get appointment for GP on Monday.

I had this. I was terrified and went to my gp straight away and I had am mri and a neurology appointment. Turns out it was migraines. If the gp had been shut I'd probably have been down to A&E as someone mentioned stroke-don't take any chances. Good luck op.

wfrances · 06/07/2014 11:57

that s normal migraine symptoms for me
i ve had mri to check but all normal.

CroydonFacelift · 06/07/2014 12:00

You should get it checked out by a doctor to be sure, but it sounds exactly like a migraine to me. I had one yesterday, too. It was a very humid, 'close' day yesterday weather-wise, which triggers migraines in me. I get the aura thing and my speech can become slow and clumsy.

neiljames77 · 06/07/2014 12:02

Could be a TIA. Was it your right eye?

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 06/07/2014 12:03

Sounds like a visual migraine (but do still get it checked out)
I had one out of the blue last year - everything went blurry in my right eye, then a 'crack' developed through which there was a rainbow disco effect pouring out.
Once I realised I wasn't going to expire immediately (and had consulted DrGoogle), it was quite interesting to 'watch'. I locked myself in the dark, and took painkillers. Had 1 more since but they don't faze me now I know that they are.

specialsubject · 06/07/2014 12:30

sounds very like a migraine - but as it is the first, you must go for a checkup just in case.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/07/2014 12:42

Professional advice: based on what you have told us here, you cannot assume this is a migraine and you should not wait until Monday.. Please ring 111 now to get assessed by an Out Of Hours GP.

If it happens again ring 999 for an ambulace - please don't wait to see if it goes off.

No one will thinkyou are a time-waster.

CrapBag · 07/07/2014 15:29

Well I spent ages worrying, then DH decided to show how he was concerned at bloody bedtime last night and done the NHS symptom checker thing which says phone 111 even if it was a couple of days ago so we did and they referred me to the emergency doctor who said exactly what I thought he would, and that was to contact my GP and it sounded like a migraine.

Saw my GP this morning who said the pill can trigger it so she has changed me to the progesterone only one, blood pressure was fine but she did say she couldn't see properly in the back of my eye, probably due to my poor eyesight, but she said I should go and have an eye test anyway.

So typical migraine, which is what I thought until people started getting me all worried by their googling. Smile
