Dehydration now?

God!!!!
Ems has been sick since last week, went off solids last Wednesday and cut down on milk a bit too. Started throwing up Friday night with high temp (other thread started then)
So now she has dry nappy after 14 hrs in bed, will not drink her milk (watered down or otherwise) pushes away water and just lays there with big eyes. I know she is getting dehyrdated she is due at he doctors at 9.15 what will they do? She has very slight temperature now, not over 38... Is vomiting once a day only, but not drinking much at all now. Maybe 1-2 oz every 3-4 hours?
I am so upset, I want my little girl back, she is so out of it. I worry as she only weighs 116 1/2 lbs at 17 mths, if she loses too much weight she will take months to recover it.
Sorry I know I am banging on about a basic bug but she is so sad
Off to get dressed, bed hair and nighty not a good look for doctor visit, nor is smelling of sick
xx J

its horrible when they are ill isnt it. dd1 was throwing up day yesterday, couldnt keep a sip of water down. took her to the docs, she has tonsilitus, she seems a bit better today but is so scared of being sick again.

Doc said to keep waking her up and giving her water or she'll end up on a drip
Simple really, pin her hands down and force it down?
Arrghhhh

kiwisbird - it may be worth trying an oral medicine syringe to try and get fluids into her it makes it easier to get little amounts of fluids in and you can keep a track of how much she has had - could you add a little sugar into the water just to increase her energy levels. Every time you try to get liquid in just keep repeating to her what the doctor said - it is surprising how much they understand even at 17 months. Good luck - it is awful to see them poorly.

So sorry to hear KB. What about ice lollies, they like them and it's an effective way to get fluid slowly into them.

try a clean wet flannel, she may suck it (mine do, especially when they're not supposed to)

misdee · 30/03/2004 12:00

small sips, syringe is a good idea, have done that before. the wet flannel works well, and ice pops. also try a little bit of blackcurrent or orange squash to flavour it. any fluid is good. even flat coke/lemonade i have been told is good as it settles the stomache, but i wouldnt give it to my youngest but anything is worth a go.

All to no avail, she promptly hurtled up every pain staking little drop I enticed her to take, so we went to the GP who referred us to Kids A+E - 3 hours later and...
tonsilitis, ear infection and one very pissed off mother who might well go and clobber the dumbarse GP who didn't even bother to look in mouth and ears!! We have antibiotics and free calpol and nurofen (well not free lol the tax we pay but hey)
Baby is soundly asleep, all is calm...
Except me in line for the doctor... What a twerp!

She has kept down her antibiotics and is drinking very sugary cordial (aarghh in the name of health dammit), she vomited twice through the night, though
She is sleeping, I am sure anti b's will kick in later today and some imporvement will happen from there
Thanks for the help, she isn't keen on anythign that requires any effort at all bless her...

I used to suffer alot with tonsillitis when i was little - ice cream is the thing - so lovely and cold and easy to swallow. Once I started to get a bit better I always used to have fish in a parley sause - can't eat it now without thinking of tonsillitis.
