The gene test for breast cancer. Would you have it?

That's it really, would you have the test? I am being referred to a genealogist because of family history, and while I said yes straight away to that referral, I'm now wondering if I should have the test, like the one that Angelina Jolie had. What if it shows that I have the gene?
WWYD?

Absolutely. Big history of breast cancer on both sides of the family - my mum and her sister were diagnosed within 6 months of eachother, their cousin just had it for a 3rd time (after 10 years remission) and i've lost an Ovary thanks to a borderline tumor (not NOT cancerous, may have became cancerous at some point in the future.) In my case however only certain types of breast cancer are genetic, neither my mum or aunt had these therefore I'm not eligible for testing. It's something I may consider doing privately in the future though.

Was sent for councilling after Mum and 2 of her sisters and one of her cousins was diagnosed, but my mum is from a very big family. It was fine, just tapped everyones details into a computer and it produced a graph, the risk data it gave was not a surprise to me as I do not think I have the gene as my mum was tested and did not have it. Sometimes you get a cluster that has no genetic component. I don't suppose you would know if your mum had the gene? Do you have any cousins who have been tested? I now go for an annual scan although reading data on how many cases are picked up through scanning it is much better to be on the ball about what is going on with your body and minimising risk by keeping weight down, don't smoke and moderate drinking. Both my parents have/had cancer, my mum is in remission, permanantly I hope. But the people that my family have lost in the last few years have all been unexpected and sudden deaths, so I go with the flow because you just don't know what life is going to bring you and often it is the thing that you never even thought of. I've dealth with cancer with my parents for years now I feel like I don't have the space in my head to worry about it any more. I have been given as much information as I need without a specific test.
