caesarian section adhesions/endometriosis

Hi. I had a c section 10 years ago. For the last 5/6 years I have had really awful periods. Excruciating pain and uncontrollable bleeding. I had to give up work because of it. Last year I had a large fibroid removed and morena coil fitted and things have improved, but during my period when it reaches my scar tissue, I still have excruciating pain/uncontrollable bleeding for a few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Its making my life totally miserable. Any ideas what it might be? Thanks

Have you asked your GP to refer you back to a gynaecologist? I wonder if adhesions might be the problem, they're basically scar tissue from surgery. I don't know what the treatment might be if so. Had several abdo/gynae surgeries, and fibroids, ultimately hysterectomy, but not your problem, though was told adhesions was cause of some of my pelvic pain.

Thanks for your reply. I need to go back to my GP. Have been putting it off as every month has been different. This month feels like back to square one. I'm really worried about having hysterectomy as I lost a lot of blood and nearly died during c section. Nothing works. Had pills to control bleeding, fibroid removed and mirena coil. Symptoms seem similar to adhesions or endometriosis. Wonder if hysterectomy inevitable.

I started suffering from endometriosis a couple of years after my second c-section, and I was told that the sections may have been the reason for it. I had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, endo zapped off by a helica laser and a D&C, and then they fitted a mirena coil. I've not had a period since and I'm on my second mirena. It's around 9 years since and I'm still pain free. You need to be rereferred to gynae.

Just to say, I know you already have the mirena, but with a bit more intervention, it may be more effective.

The cause of all this now needs to be properly determined.

I would ask to be referred to a gynaecologist to see if endometriosis is the root cause of your problems now. Adhesions (sticky strands) can also tether organs together and cause pain. Drug treatment on its own will not touch adhesions once they are formed; usually further surgery is needed to remove them.

It needs to be properly investigated and asap.

I had adhesions sticking bits together and horrendous pain/bleeding. Saw Gynae and took a while to identify ( camera found it) and the lazered it off at the same time.

So if it is adhesions, could have laser treatment, not necessarily hysterectomy. Hope so. Thanks

I wanted a hysterectomy after dc4 to stop it all happening again and they don't want to do one until it's last resort so I doubt they'll push you into it

I had adhesions all around my ovary after surgery to remove ruptured fallopian tube...I just had them removed in April and my horrendous periods got better straight away

FiloFunky · 05/07/2014 17:05

I've had adhesiolysis twice. The problem with that is that suet her surgery can cause more. I chose a hysterectomy at 27 instead. Life has been grand since. Took five and a half hours to perform my TAH with BSO. Surgeon hoped for less than an hour but my adhesions were extensive.

I'm about to chat further if you'd like to PM about it Smile
