Aveeno cream - is it any good?

Dd (aged 4.5) has recently had a bad eczema flare-up and I am getting desperate. Have read somewhere, but forgotten where, that Aveeno cream is really good for eczema. Has anyone had experience of it? Any feed back gratefully received otherwise it's back to the doctor for HC cream, which I hate!!!!
Tried going on to the website, but there was no info.

I tried Avenno without much success but now use Cetraben moisturiser which you can get on prescription or just buy at Boots (they may need to order it) it is just a moisturiser but works really well. Also if you put the HC cream on over it it works well too.

I think you read it here. I've never tried it for eczema, but have used it on all sorts of rashes, and it worked really well.

luckymum · 29/03/2004 20:24

We've used it on dd's discoid eczema combined with Balneum in the bath and h/c cream. Its cleared up quite a bit and at the moment we've dropped off the h/c.

neetsmassi · 29/03/2004 20:27

We've used it and it is very good - you can get it on prescription.

Thanks for that everyone. Just read the thread the maomao gave me and def. want to give it a go!If I get it on prescription do I need to take dd to the gp or can I go and ask for it?

neetsmassi · 29/03/2004 21:48

I think you will have to take dd to the gp - if gp does not suggest it (i's about £8 a tube) ask for it. Good Luck

Superb, go for it. dd's eczema has been 80% better since starting using it.

suzywong · 29/03/2004 22:08

Yes it is fantastic, gets working straight away, on all kinds of manky skin. HIghly recommended ( I heard it here first)

DS has mild eczema - was really bad when he was 4mths but has improved a lot since then. I used Elena's nature creams (see ad on Mumsnet) and found them very good but expensive - cleared up his red and scaly cheeks within days. Having used Aveeno recently I would say it is not as good as Elena's - doesn't leave DS's skin as soft - but fine as a maintenance cream - and it is considerably cheaper! If you try Aveeno and it is not working, do try Elena's creams, if you search on here you will find a number of positive testimonies (Pupuce is another one).

How come you lot all seem to be able to get things which can be bought over the counter on prescription? We just get told what to ask/look for at the pharmacy.

clary · 30/03/2004 11:28

I back up what others have said, Aveeno is good, also you can use it as often as you like (ie not like HC cream etc). I asked for it on prescription and there was no argument (it is dear otherwise). We also get Oilatum, which is freely available to buy in Boots, on prescrip GillW. HAve to say that some things work and others not; Aveeno was I feel what finally cleared DS1's eczema at aged about 2; DD's has been much worse and Aveeno seemed to make no difference at first but lately it has been helping. DS2 shows no signs of the dreaded excema thank goodness as aprt from anything else I can't spell it (sorry).

KPB · 30/03/2004 12:39

I tried (out of desperation) Sudocream and guess what it worked. Dd's eczema is 80% better I can't believe it! Will still try the Aveeno but am going to keep up with the sudocream!:0

didn't help ds's excema at all, only thing that seems to help are hydrocortisone1% ,dermal 600 in bath, and epaderm or similar .
