Cold!!! How can I make DS feel better?

DS is 8 months and BF. He woke up this morning with a very runny nose and cries a lot. He won't feed much and I don't know if this is the reason but I can hear that his nose is quite blocked.. Please share your wisdom with me.

You can steam him, to sort it out. Run the shower, full on hot, and hang out in the bathroom with him. That often helps.

If he can't sleep and is truly miserable, Medised will sort him out (drowsy-making antihistamine, paracetamol).

Mostly, like with adults, you just have to wait it out.

breast milk in the nose to soften the snot and suck it out with a sucker thing you get from chemist (you can use saline instead of bm if you prefer .. also available from chemist)

calpol / nurofen

fluids if he'll take them

Put some karvol/vick on a muslin and have it where he can breathe it in while feeding. Also steamy atmosphere, (e.g. bathroom with shower running) assuming he's not too hot.

twiglett, no chemist here sells those aspirator thingies, they look at me like I'm mad whenever I ask for one!

Thank you all. We have a nose "thingy" so might try squirting (DH gonna think I've gone mad) some BM later. The shower running also sounds great, will try that after he wakes up. I seem to remember they're not meant to sleep on their back (or was it front?) when they have a cold. Is this the case?

Sleeping on the back is fine, just tilt teh end of the cot slightly. Also you can use karvol on a tissue near where ds sleeps.
