I am considering getting the flu jab this year.

I came down with flu in March and it wipped me out for two weeks , DH had to take time off work to help with the children as I didn't stir from my bed for a week.
I had never had flu before and the thought of coming down with it again feels me with dreaad especailly looking after two children and the possibilty of DH being away and not being to help out.

I phoned my GP and they are not taking appoitments until end of this month/ ealry Oct.

The recpetionist said that it is usually the elderly and those suffering from asthma etc that get it but to check back with them later in the month when they have more info.

Anyone had the flu jab and what do you think my chances of getting one are ?

I had flu about 7 years ago and was off work for 3 weeks. My gp said I should have an annual flu jab after that, so I do, plus I was also given a 10 yr jab against pneumonia. Your chances should be pretty good I think - I would make an appointment with your gp to discuss it and get their agreement for you to receive it annually.

I think it's quite unlikely you'll be given one as vaccine stock is usually limited hence the restrictions to elderly and people suffering from chronic illnesses. You can get one privately though-Boots the chemist used to offer it in their larger stores.

Dd1 missed her flu jab this year as she'd changed dr's (she's at uni and asthmatic) so I paid at a private clinic to get it done. It was £11, which is money well spent to avoid flu!

£11 - I thought that it may have been more expensive that that. May look into having it done privately then...besides Boots anyone know where in Surrey/London I could have it done ? Or do you just contact a private hospital ?
