Being referred urgently to hopefully have this done.

After some reassurance, I'm terrified of having a general anaesthetic mainly!

Anyone ever had it and woken up to find they coudnt do keyhole?

I had mine removed 6 weeks after having a c section with twins. I woried that because I had long fresh cut on my lower abdomen but it really was fine. I have a small scar between my breasts and nothing else. It wasn't painful and I loved having the anesetic, it was the best sleep I had had in months! I was disappointed when they sent me home.

Good luck.

Hi helensburgh
I suffered for a long time with gallstones. It took ages for my Doctor to diagnose them as I was so young...apparently they are not common in younger people?!!!! Anyway I ended up being in hospital twice with them - first time they had got stuck in my bile duct and damaged my liver. Had two mri scans etc...any way to cut a long story short I had my gb removed 8 months after being in hospital with them stuck. I thought it was going to be keyhole but you are always have to be prepared for it not being. So I went to theatre and woke up hours later...at this stage I knew it was not keyhole due to the length of time I was in theatre. It turned out they removed my gb keyhole but surgeon just double checked for stones in bile duct because of my past history....turns out I had 10 stuck there so I had to be opened. I was terrified of GA and being opened but I honestly have to say there is nothing to be worried about. This was only my second time in hospital and I was so scared...but they were lovely. Yes there is a longer recovery time with open surgery but the relief you will feel from getting rid of your gb will be worth it! Do not worry! Hope it all goes well!

I am getting mine out in sept. So hopefully all goes good.

I was getting keyhole but it ruptured, so my scar under boobs is slightly bigger than it should be, but only about an inch or so long.

Thanks all that really helps.

I'm on the urgent list now!

I got mine out after turning up at a&e at 5am in agony. So was really urgent. Wink
I was pretty sore, and not 100% for a few weeks, just take it easy, eat little and often so you can take pain killers, and try and go for short walks as soon as you feel able.
Also leggings and vest tops with the support in them is the best clothes for after. Grin

Had mine out 6 weeks ago. I was a young one who they didn't believe for ages too!
I was petrified, scared of needles, 1st operation etc etc.
Honestly i would do it again in a heartbeat. It is all so easy, not scary in the slightest and i was pretty much back to normal after a week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask as its still all fresh in my mind!

helensburgh · 03/07/2014 22:50

Thank you!

I had a rubbish a and e experience ( no painkillers till dr could examine me, took 50 mins) etc!

Last few attacks I've ridden out at home, couldn't have got in car as too sore
