When do I need to seek medical attention do you think?
For now, should I just be letting it go down gradually?
I'm very late 40s, in case that makes a difference. Fit and healthy as far as I know Smile

No - ring your GP and get seen today. This is potentially serious.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/07/2014 13:03

That is quite a journey!

specialsubject · 01/07/2014 13:11

GP, NOW. DVT, dengue...

hope not but GET SEEN.

Kittykat7 · 01/07/2014 13:13

Best to get checked. It could just be oedema( collection of fluid) but see a Dr to be sure. I live in Australia & both mine & DH's feet are swollen after travelling. Keeping them elevated for a few days makes it subside.

Needadvice5 · 01/07/2014 13:15

Very possible DVT, You really need to GP or go to A+E to see if your D Dimers are raised.....

mckenzie · 01/07/2014 13:22

GP has had a cancellation for 5pm or I could go to our hospital's care centre (at what was our A&E dept) now and take my chance getting seen.
I'm too tired to make the decision. Please could somebody make it for me?
TIA

Sit in a&e - if you're not seen before 5 - go to your doc appt Smile

Amrapaali · 01/07/2014 13:24

Yes, you are going.

mckenzie · 01/07/2014 13:26

I like your thinking yellow stripe. Ok, locking up and going. Thank you all.

you don't mention how long ago the flight was (i'm interpreting from the thread title that you did a round trip from UK to Australia in a 6 day window), but not how long it's been since you returned to the UK.

it wouldn't be at all unusual for you to have developed a bit of peripheral oedema, but that would usually have resolved within a couple of days.

if you are outside of that period, and particularly if you are experiencing pain, heat, redness or significant swelling, then you should definitely be investigated for DVTs (which are definitely a possibility after such a long journey)

good luck with your combined A&E/GP approach!

Hi kronenborg, I felt bad about keeping the doctors appt once I'd arrived at the hosptial so I cancelled it and crossed my fingers. As it happened, I got seen quickly but have to go to a different hospital for the blood tests and their blood centre is not answering the phone so I've not gone yet. I don't know if it's a drop in or if I need an appt. the hospital has just today been taken over by a new trust and has a new website which isn't clarifying the situation.

I'd say the swelling and pain started pretty soon into the first part of the homeward journey so that would have been Monday morning UK time.
