Mirena coil - 4 months in and I want it out! Will my GP agree?

I was given a coil to reduce heavy periods which was causing non-anaemic iron deficiency.

However 4 months later and I'm a raging ball of anger (think raging at everyone for no reason and getting worked up over trivial stuff), spotty as a dalmatian, having horrendous cramps at period time (although not much of a period), putting on weight/bloating despite eating sensibly and exercising more (and I know it's not me overeating as I'm using MFP and weighing stuff so I can work out "normal" portions), and, sorry for the TMI, I have permanent heavy discharge.

I know they say wait for 6 months, but I want this out - would a doctor consider this or will I have to wait for another few months?

I've not managed to get an appt to have a coil inserted yet, but my GP has already agreed that it can be taken out after 4 months if I'm really not getting on with it. Any supportive GP should listen and take it out.

Good luck.

I would have the Mirena removed and then insist to the GP that you are referred to a gynaecologist to have the CAUSE of your heavy periods properly investigated.

Fibroids for instance can cause heavy bleeding, have you ever been assessed to see if that is the root cause?.

I had mine taken out after four months; Family Planning Clinic grumbled a bit but I insisted, for all the same reasons you have mentioned above- I turned into a bloated, spotty, ANGRY beast who bled constantly for those four months and would have chopped off dh's appendage if he'd as much as mention sex!

Periods are likely to be genetically heavy - my DM & DGM were exactly the same; they are also not sure about chicken v. egg syndrome - are my periods causing the iron deficiency or is the iron deficiency causing the heavy periods?

and yes to the chopping bits off for mentioning sex

And fibroids, cysts etc have all been ruled out with scans, it's just normal for me IYSWIM.
