Why do I hurt?

onestepbeyond · 29/06/2014 20:55

Since having dd2 approx 5 months ago I keep having periods where I hurt all over. It's a sharp nerve type pain and can occur any where although my hands seem to suffer worst. I also have very stiff ankles when I wake up and struggle to even walk downstairs.
Any ideas?

I've been hospialised with a Lupus flare causing me to lose the use of my legs, pains all over and severe neuropathy, as well as double pleurisy My inflammation markers weren't raised Hmm.

Keep a diary of all your symptons and push for a rheumatology referral.
Good luck.

Cocolepew · 17/07/2014 19:51

Sorry typos!

onestepbeyond · 17/07/2014 19:56

I'm sorry yellowsnow that's ridiculous and so frustrating.
ej23 I know what you mean about having to take anything while bfing - how old is your dc3? My dd2 is nearly 6months and my hv said to get her straight onto sippy cups which she is taking to quite well.

Gosh cocolepew that's awful. Can't believe that with your referral yellowsnownotoeat. Can you go private through your husband's work? This waiting games's awful because your anxiety can meanwhile go off the scale. It has with me. Have just bought a book with meditation cd off ebay called 'Mindfulness for health'. You ladies should check it out. Had bloods done again this week, checking thyroid again, and also calcium, vit B12 and something else. If they come back normal he said he'd refer me to a neurologist. Dc3 is 9 months. Trying every day with various bottles but she just can't suck on them. Using sippy cups as well but don't get much down her and there's no comfort factor I guess.

ej23 · 19/07/2014 20:21

Also, still not heard yet about nerve test or Lyme result.

onestepbeyond · 19/07/2014 20:32

Very interested in mindfulness as do suffer badly from anxiety. Had a bit of a breakthrough at doctors as he thinks I have ME ( it's his area of speciality) but need to have a couple more tests to rule all othe possibilities out. I had other symptons I hadn't linked such as muscle twitches and mixing words up. Bit of a bugger but will be such a relief to actually know what's wrong with me.

ej23 · 19/07/2014 20:53

So is there an actual test for ME? I bet this book and cd would be good for you too. Also could all still be hormonal. Not got my periods back yet, have you?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 20/07/2014 09:29

Ej23, yeah I was so annoyed. Going to phone about private to see what it covers then the referral can be transferred to there, they lost my bloods as well. Hmm
Anxiety is a problem with me as we'll, I get worked up when I can do simple things, like going shopping or stuff as I'm so used to not doing them. I use self hypnosis and deep breathing to try and sort it. Sometimes works sometimes doesn't.
With the good weather just now, the cabin fever aspect of it as we don't have a garden really gets to me, I force myself to walk to the park with ds just for him to go on the swings for 10 minutes then come home.
Hoping moving happens soon so I can even just sit in the garden.
Shoulders are in cry worthy agony this morning, literally woke dh up by screaming in pain. Hmm

ej23 · 22/07/2014 12:01

Can't believe they lost your bloods as well! I'd be fuming. You've been suffering you say since when and you're no near to any kind of diagnosis?! Really bad. We've just been away on mini break we won and found hot tub and sauna a good pain relief. Give it a go if you can.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 22/07/2014 17:00

Suffering since about February/march 2013. Grrrrr shoulders are bearable today, right leg and hip absolute agony! Had to go out today, not been out for about a week, well further than the end of the street. It was awful, I was nearly crying at some points, but needed to be outside.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 22/07/2014 17:02

We have been planning on getting a hot tub when we move, as baths sometimes help. Sauna would be good, but none close. Hmm

ej23 · 25/07/2014 23:12

Bless you, yellowsnownotoeat , you have been suffering a long time. You mentioned x rays and physio in an earlier post. What was that for or what did it rule out? Really hope your hope brings you some relief with garden, especially if you get hot tub!
I feel the meditation/ relaxation thing is working for me. Helps distract from the pain. I really think anxiety has been making things worse for me.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 27/07/2014 08:38

The X-rays were to rule out arthritis I think and the physio was purely for my shoulders, as they thought it was just an impingement. I had RSI a few years a go and it was caused by bad posture at work so the gaps had got smaller between my vertebra. If that makes sense. So they thought it might be that. The last doctor I had took everything I said more seriously rather than just handing me painkillers and even took the fact that I had flitting arthritis as a toddler in to account as this presents the same as it constantly moves. But I don't know if it feels the same as I was only little, so can only remember going to hospital but not what it felt like. But that only lasted for a few weeks then, as you said this has been well over a year now. Hmm
Sore this morning, back, arms and fingers. Just psyching myself up to go and lift my baby as I can hear rustling from his room. Lol
Yes, I have a child that understands lie ins at the weekend, so every cloud. Grin

ej23 · 27/07/2014 21:37

Have you looked into fibromyalgia at all? I'm starting to wonder if that's what I've got. Been freaking out again today as had episode when arm felt numb. Wish whatever is was would F off!

sleepysleepy · 27/07/2014 22:03

Look up hypermobility syndrome, might fit?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 27/07/2014 22:47

I thought it might be elhers danlos (sp?) syndrome as I am pretty bendy. And have a lot of things that fit, but not sure. I'm not convinced on fibromyalgia as it's seems to be a go to answer instead of an actual diagnosis as it is kind of a blanket term for chronic pain.

sleepysleepy · 28/07/2014 06:54

Ehlers danlos and hypermobility are sometimes thought to be the same thing; its a spectrum of bendiness really! I have it and am nearly a year postnatal after third baby, having awful pelvis and joint pains. Spending a lot of time doing swimming, pilates and cycling to try and increase strength but not convinced its doing much. Although makes me feel better mentally! Look at the beighton and Brighton criteria and see if you fit? Bear in mind age reduces the bendiness. It's a bit of a shitty diagnosis because nothing really 'cures' it. I'm still wondering why I bounced out of the last two pregnancies but this one has floored me.

ej23 · 28/07/2014 12:56

Omg I can't bloody believe it- just had call from surgery to say looks like Lyme's disease blood test got lost/ didn't happen ( sent off 5 weeks ago) and also nerve conduction test( also referred for weeks ago) came back declined as not enough symptoms at time and was never updated. Just had massive melt down on phone saying I'm getting more symptoms every week including numbness in arm and face while trying to look after 6 yr and 8 yr old and 9 month old baby and that I'm absolutely petrified something is seriously wrong with me. She just apologised and arranged for blood test to be done again tomorrow and GP appmnt with herself Friday. Am in bits.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 28/07/2014 19:56

Ej23 for goodness sake, that's awful! What is going on with the nhs?!? I may be flamed for this but I feel that doctors are just getting bogged down by time wasters and following protocol so when you actually need help you can't get it. When I had similar symptoms as a baby the doctor turned up at my door on a Sunday and I was in hospital the next day for every test he could think of after he looked in books to see what it could be. Sadly he is now retired, I think that type of doctor wouldn't be allowed anymore. I just want answers, my dh is on holiday just now and it's been so much easier to do such simple things without struggling in agony. Hope you get it sorted.

ej23 · 19/08/2014 11:26

Just wondered how you are doing onestepbeyond and yellowsnow. Any improvement?

ELR · 20/08/2014 08:56

Just found this thread, I've been suffering with most of the symptoms mentioned since April 2012 but been really bad for last 6 months. My thyroid is always slightly over range but they still won't medicate, been for a scan to check for fibroids as have really heavy periods but all clear. I'm anemic and have low b12 and deficient in vit d I have been taking vit d for last 3 months and I've noticed a big difference with aches and pains I can actually lift the kettle with one hand!!
I am having more blood tests at end of August and then if thyroid still over gp said he will start me on a trial of thyroxine.
I have been in agony the last 3 days with pains in arms and legs and my shoulders are killing, been waiting for physio app for last 5 months. I'm just do fed up.
Did any of you find out what was wrong?

ej23 · 22/08/2014 13:59

Hi, and no in answer to your question. Interesting to hear about your thyroid. Mine was fine supposedly when tested, but am not convinced as have lost so much weight. Am now about stone and a half lighter than before I was pregnant! My wandering pains and random nerve muscle spasms, tingles etc are getting worse. Ended up having private neurologist appmnt the other day ( no health cover so will cost us £200!) as so anxious. He said he didn't think it was a neurological issue but more musculoskeletal so should be seeing a rheumatologist. Also suggested celiac testing and Epstein Barr virus ( glandular fever) test so am having those next week. Fed up to the back teeth!
