Osteopath for lower back pain?

I've had lower back issues for a long time. I don't think it's anything major (though it gets very painful), I have a long standing but very minor scoliosis (curvature of spine), which I think has always caused me to feel like my pelvis is slightly lopsided. I've had espisodes of lower back pain - usually when I bend the wrong way - which come and go. After 2 pregnancies and the whole slackening of ligaments etc, it has got a lot worse - I can feel that the sacro-illiac joint on the RHS is sticking out / swollen, I have pins and needles on the side of my upper RHS thigh probably due to a trapped nerve somewhere, and on-off back pain most of the time.

I am currently seeing a physiotherapist. I am not in the UK (am in France) and the treatment is quite different to what I have experienced in the UK. My physio does a lot of massage, a lot of heat pads, sometimes gets me to do sit-up type exercises, and ocasionally puts these electric shock pads on my back (which she says reduces inflamation and encourages the growth of new muscles). I've been going twice a week for about 3 months, and I have no doubt that if the summer holidays weren't intervening I'd be seeing her for at least another 3 months - healthcare works rather differently over here! I am certain that if I did a lot more yoga to stengthen my pelvic and lower back muscles, that would help a lot, as would losing some weight. All easier said than done!

Anyway, I can't say that I have noticed much difference from the physiotherapy. Everyone that I mention my back problem to here says 'you musy go to my osteopath - they are wonderful!'

I wanted to ask if anyone here has used an osteopath, what they did, whether it worked etc.

TIA

I see an osteopath for lower back pain caused by hyper lordosis (excessive curvature of the lower spine). He manipulates my ligaments and cracks the air out of my spine. I always feel a couple of inches taller afterwards. I'd recommend giving it a go, it's different to physio and complementary

I have used an osteopath - in France and in Belgium. For me it was to tackle lower back problems. Initially I went to a physio (in Paris) who, after 12 sessions, managed to correct my back problem which was caused by my sacro-iliac joint being out of alignment.

Next time round (recurring problem due to my bad sitting posture!) I went to see an osteopath who essentially fixed the same problem in one session. Definitely worth it IMO.

I now see the osteo about once a year when I start to get back twinges.
