stuck on plaster/lint

dc has a nasty scrape on the elbow which is now weeping.
we have disinfected it and leave it in the open for most of the day but cover with lint (area too big for plaster) when going outside and at night to preven unconcious scratching.
because it's weepig (clear on the would, pus filled spots around the wound) I disinfect a few times a day, but this morning the lint was very stuck to the wound. a bit destilled water helped loosen it, but t
lint took a bit of the crust with it.

next time should I leave it? I don't know if removing the crust and opening the wound is a good or bad thing.
pharmacist said to cover the lint with savlon gel so it doesn't stick, but it didn't help.

Buy some non stick dressings. I cant believe the pharmacist didn't suggest these. Melolin is the brand name.

Unless your little flag means you are actually in Germany, in which case it may be something different or not available!

the lint pack says 'non stick'
I guess will have to treck to boots to get some melolin.

Go to GP if you haven't . The nurses are usually best at stuff like this .
Sympathies .

Have you been given a prescription for dressings and advice on wound care ?

mousmous · 03/07/2014 11:53

well, they said to leave it uncovered.
which today will be fine as dc doesn't feel well and doesn't want to use the arm much. looks very painful.
have bought melolin and non-latex medicinal tape so I can cover it over night (dc likes to fiddle).

You can get good non stick mesh type stuff which you could then cover with gauze and a bit of tubifast ( stretchy tubular arm/leg stuff ) .
You can get plain NA ( just ask for NA ) or adaptic touch ,or jelonet . Or if it's still a bit infected inadine NA is good .

It's easy to put on for nights .

Good luck .
