Had first wax today after having dd 7 months ago and am swollen real bad.

Have taken anti histamine and some ibuprofen and am sitting here with ice pack in situ.

Any other idea to help with the swelling and burning and any ideas as to why it's happened.

DH reckons that's it's because is first time I have had it done since having dd?

I get this every time now. I think I'm allergic to the process. Antihistamine tablets & cream slightly help.
I'm considering an epilator.

Am getting the rest lasered off.

I am a beauty therapist. Did the therapist use an after wax lotion? You could be allergic to an ingredient in it. Some contain tea tree oil or calamine. What area was waxed? Was it hot or strip wax? If wax is too hot or strip wax used on bikini area, underarm or eyebrow then you can get redness, burning or scabbing. Also bruising can cure. If bumpy & itchy that indicates hives so an allergic reaction. Wax isn't on the skin long enough to cause an allergy so it would hsve to be the pre or after wax lotion causing it.

Kittykat7 · 29/06/2014 08:32

*bruising can occur

Madamecastafiore · 29/06/2014 08:36

Hi Kitty

Yes she used an after wax lotion with tea tree in it. Asked if I was allergic and I said no as I thought I wasn't. I'll take my own next time.

The wax was v v hot as she thought I was having one treatment where I had actually booked in for another, maybe that was it?

What an earth is a noonie? Have googled it and seen pictures of babies. Is it what I think it is?

It is possible that the wax was too hot. A friend of mine sustained third degree burns on her leg a few years ago from wax that was too hot. and required medical treatment.

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 29/06/2014 08:50

Kitty hope I'm not butt

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 29/06/2014 08:52

Sorry, butting in.
My allergic reaction happens exactly 24 hours after waxing.
It starts off with a prickling sensation then moves on to full on major itch

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 29/06/2014 08:52

Blooming phone, major itch

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 29/06/2014 08:53

I give up, but any advise welcome

The hair follicle after waxing is susceptible to infection. No hot baths, sunbathing, swimming, make up or perfumed body lotions are to to used on the waxed area for 24 hrs. An after wax lotion must be used as it's antibacterial. If it's washed off within a few hours then the area could feel irritated. A lot of people don't follow the correct aftercare. Also on the bikini line area wearing tight jeans after waxing can irritate the area.
The most obvious cause is an allergy to the after wax lotion but if the correct aftercare is not followed than that could be to blame.

I react badly to waxing. I get swelling a redness. I had a bikini wax before my wedding in preparation for my honeymoon and ended up red raw. Great! Grin. Never again.

Kittykat7 · 29/06/2014 10:49

Noonie or nunny is a name used like Minnie, fanny, bunny. It's usually used for kids or people to call their vagina like boys will say willy for penis.

Bunbaker · 29/06/2014 12:50

I have never heard of that expression before, and it didn't come up when I googled it, although I kind of guessed what it was. What part of the country uses this word?

Kittykat7 · 29/06/2014 13:48

London/Essex

AnonButRegular · 30/06/2014 14:27
