Lump in my breast, with one sided green discharge from nipple

I have been referred to the breast clinic by the GP since I noticed the discharge. I hadn't noticed any lump but the doctor found one and I have been assured that I'll be seen under the 2 week rule.

I'm up and down. Has anyone had discharge like this before?

Oh my goodness, that sounds scary for you. No useful advice I'm afraid but I can say that even if it is something worrying, they will move very fast. My mother was diagnosed with BC last year (rather late, sadly - she was scared to see the doctor about the obvious lump) and they started chemo pretty much immediately after they'd worked out what stage the lump was at. We were assured that this was the standard service for anyone diagnosed with BC (any stage).

Having said that, it could just be a random inoffensive lump which they will whip out and then you can forget all about it. Obviously I hope it is the latter :)

I have a kind of greeny dishcharge from one nipple when squeezed as if expressing. I think it is quite common when you approach the perimenopause to have something called duct ectasia, and this is what they thought I had. It's more common in smokers (although I gave up more than 10yrs ago...)

Had discharge last year cleared up when i had steroids for a different problem!!

allisgood1 · 28/06/2014 22:34

It's very very very likely to be duct ectasia. The lump as well. As someone else said this is related to hormonal changes. How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

funkypigeon · 28/06/2014 23:27

I'm 34 so thought I was a bit young to be getting duct ecstasia?

Well I had it and am 38 so possibly not too young.

I have had the same symptoms as you had and was told it was duct ecstasia. Mine developed into periductal mastitis quickly, so get advice if you develop any other symptoms.

I have had a green discharge from both nipples for over 10 years. Not due to menopause or peri menopause for me though. My GP was unconcerned. She said it was due to widening ducts having breast fed my children some years previously. Not sure if that is the same as duct ecstasia that other posters mentioned. I have had it since I was about 30. Good luck with your appointment at the clinic.

I think widening ducts = ectasia but not 100%
