Could do with a chat about Hashimotos

Have posted this is chat by mistake but no replies so though I'd better here!....

I went to my GP a couple of years ago with severe fatigue, weight gain and being totally unable to concentrate/forgetful. He did a thyroid check and TSH came back as 4.8 which he said was fine. I have previously had hyperthyroidism post-natally where my TSH was undetectable and T4 around 70! treated with Carbimazole for one year and then ok. So he was of the thinking that my thyroid gland had been damaged by this and would need to be checked six-monthly to keep an eye.
Then my thyroid antibodies were checked, and were positive. At this point he decided things would definitely get worse and so started me on 25 ug Thyroxine. He said he didn't want to go any higher as he didn't want things to 'swing the other way' again and that I would be at increased risk of osteoporosis?
So, my TSH is 2.4-2.8 on the 25 ug.
I feel awful. I'm so tired, I can't think straight. I feel anxious and I'm bloated. I'm hungry all the time and can't stop the sugar cravings. I'm gaining weight still. He has never mentioned Hashimotos to me but on reading on here I'm thinking that's what I have with the positive antibodies, please correct me if I am wrong!
Have changed doctors and really wondered if you have any advice or anything I should ask for. Just want to be armed with information before I see him!

hi
yes just ask to increase meds til you feel better. probably this will mean a tsh under 1. so long as t4 and t3 are in range, this is no big deal. you have antibodies so there is a proven thyroid issue
also ask for ferritin, b12, vit d blood tests as there are probably other issues there. possibly also celiac test.

I've started on a gluten free diet now (not advised by GP but by reading a lot of info online it seems going gluten free can be life changing for some people with Hashimoto's).

I was diagnosed in 2005.

OP I would get a second opinion and ask to see a specialist. you need a proper diagnosis.

My latest blood results are TSH 4.92 and free T4 13.1 which is apparently all 'normal' according to the receptionist, as the GP has signed it all of as normal for the medical records....

Strange that though, I don't feel 'normal'. My dose of thyroxine was increased to 50mcg from 25mcg which I'd been on for years.
